Wow, that was quick. What happens now? Does the governor make an appointment to fill his seat or is there a special election?

By all accounts, IPF and non-small cell lung cancer are horrible and painful, and should be wished on no human being. My thoughts and condolences to his loved ones.

Having recently lost a dear friend to cancer I can empathize with the family, but also know there is a strange mix of sadness and relief that comes after a long fight ends.

I don't know about the protocol Jenna, but I'm sure we'll hear soon. I'm more interested to know if the bill (Patient's Bill of Rights), Rep. Norwood introduced today can be passed posthumously.

My hope is that it can, and that it will pass with bipartisan support.

"The governor has 10 days after a seat is vacated to call for a special election. The election must then take place within 30 days after that election is called."

There are several Augusta area Republicans (in Columbia County) already jockeying for position within the community. Ralph Hudgens, who's a State Senator near Athens, has already announced.

Note: Despite any rumors you may have heard, I am not going to run for the seat.

darnit - checkbook - cross out Jen B.
