A double tragedy

Son of former Lt. Gov. to be imprisoned, from AJC:

The son of former Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor was sentenced today to three years imprisonment in the drunken driving death of his good friend two years ago in Charleston, S.C.

Fulton Fletcher Taylor, 23, will serve one year with the balance suspended. After his release he’ll be on probation for five years. Taylor pleaded guilty to a felony charge of driving under the influence where a death resulted.

It was a very unfortunate and tragic accident. They were best friends. In SC, the judge was able to create a sentence based on the facts on the case.

Hmmm.... MT showed some post-campaign compassion toward his son in front of the court. This is very different from his previous published comments.

“I’m asking you to have mercy on my son.”

Mister “Tough On Crime” has not shown the same compassion for the son’s of Georgians in the same situation.

This has been and continues to be a very dark time for all the families involved. I'm no MT fan, but when I heard him speak of his son during the campaign, there was deep emotion there. The sad fact is this could have happened to any family with kids, and could have been the reverse if the other boy had been driving.
