The Spice Girls are back!
Alinghi, the Swiss team, won today's America's Cup race, putting them ahead 3 races to 2. First team to win 5 races wins the cup.
New Zealand was leading when a sail ripped. They got a replacement sail ready, but they only had the top of it hooked to the ropes when the guys hoisted it up, so the bottom wasn't connected to anything and ended up flapping in the breeze like a flag.
They got yet another sail ready and finally got it up, but by then the Swiss had taken the lead, never to relinquish it.
A really bad performance by the Kiwis. They will have to do better. They had a guy fall overboard the other day (although he managed to hold on to a rope and climb back aboard) and they won that race anyway.
One of the teams is building a new boat, but we don't know which team; all we know is that the race organizers assigned a new sail number. If it's New Zealand, the air freight bill will be pretty steep to get it to Spain before the end of the competition.
Next race: Saturday 9AM!
I saw Sicko tonight... Now I want to buy 100 copies and force everybody to watch it.
It didn't tell me much I didn't already know, but Moore makes the subject compelling by showing real examples and real people, with just the right measure of humor.
These are the values Democrats can rally round.
I highly recommend the movie.
