Hardball with Chris Matthews devoted the entire show to the Coulter/Edwards brouhaha last night and featured John Edwards as the special guest. While himself surfing the ratings wave such controversies bring, Matthews asked Edwards whether Coulter should be selling books and he (Edwards) should be fundraising off the controversy. This misses the point.
Coulter engages in the political equivalent of potty humor specifically to sell her rag books (they wouldn't sell otherwise). Edwards is a Presidential candidate in full fundraising mode who didn't start the controversy but is not backing away from it. If his and Elizabeth's pushback of the evil skeleton helps bring some earned media and funds to the campaign, so be it. It's about time someone stood up to this ridiculous shrew and called her out publicly on her crap.
The video exchange between Coulter and Elizabeth showed (once again) that Coulter is nothing more than a mercenary hack without shame or soul. The contrast between the two women could not have been starker, or the metaphor more obvious. It's long past time for all networks to stop featuring this evil witch and helping to shovel her junk books and phoney opinions. Enough is enough. Get the fork.

I think the Edwards' should ignore Coulter and instead stand up to Matthews, Cuomo (Chris interview Coulter on GMA the other day), King, and anyone else who has her on their show.
BTW - I wonder if Chris Cuomo got any call from *ahem* family members after his appallingly cordial on-air visit with the evil skeleton. I can only imagine what Papa Mario might have to say...
"Coulter engages in the political equivalent of potty humor specifically to sell her rag books"
Couldn't have been said better.
Never underestimate the power of potty humor.
poop
Colter, Rush et. al. are the political equivalent of pro wrestling. Lots of yelling and arm-waving, but none of it is real.
Trouble is, there are peole who believe pro wrestling is real...
Cheers,
Bob Roche
So what if Edwards is making money off of her criticism, she makes if off of her criticism all the time. If she wants to throw that back in their face as a defense of her words and complain that they are making money off of her name, then stop attacking him. I bet she will take credit for Edwards winning, if he does, because they made money as a result of her clearly personal and unprofessional remarks. Besides, she should know that the best way to motivate people is to piss them off and she is doing just that - or did she skip psychology class in college.
Yawn, some people are only fascinated cause it's girl on girl drama..
Frankly I don't care who gets what off this crap. We've always raised money off thier dumbass stuff they do just like they raise money off the boogie women Nancy and Hillary.
Whatever..
Geeze, I think the heat is getting to folks.
not so much "girl on girl"
See below at the "Strap-On Vets for Truth" web site. Acording to the site, "Ann Coulter is actually a former drag queen from Key West named Pudenda Shenanigans."

Also, "Condoleeza Rice" and "Water Sports"
LOL
I'm not so sure Coulter's book "sells" at all. I'm on the Newsmax email list (purely as opposition research, and well, maybe there is a small entertainment factor wondering why anyone would want a fake CIA baseball hat or a cd of Ronald Raegan telling jokes) but they have been GIVING AWAY the book if you just sign up for their crap magazine. So Newsmax and all the other basement dwelling RW formerly-Scaife-funded-but-
now-forced-to-actually-scam-people-
out-of-their-money self-proclaimed pundits load up Mom's credit card and buy a bunch of books and then try to get the money back by selling Chinese made hats and home-made self-defense videos and magazines which are just a printout of the website and selling everybody's address to offshore casinos and every other spammer they can find.
EE was beyond dumb for trying to attack the bar street maven with a Q-Tip. How not street was that? And how did Elizabeth think that she was going to politely ask Ann "I eat dirt for breakfast" Coulter to stop saying bad things about her husband.
EE just reinforces her husband's "Putin sitdown" problem. A good political mind says that Edwards won't win the presidential race because he would punk out while sitting in front of Putin. Yeah, I just can't believe Edwards has the cajones to take on Putin - unless he takes Elizabeth with him to the meeting.
I think Coulter has a big ol' crush on Edwards. I mean its classic girl who is swoll - first she calls him gay, then she says he needs to die. So she has about 3 more times to say that he should die and then she'll she say he has some disease. EE should really be asking what John-boy said to Ann to get her all angry.
I think so, mAnn Coulter does seem to have some sort of irrational crush the size of her adam's apple on JE. But anyway, I actually think EE did the right thing, and that she and JE came out looking strong on this, asking for rational discourse. I think we might be witnessin' the corporate controlled media's shoving Miss Coulter off her center stage status.
I don't know, I think this is one of those things you have 'people' do for you. Coulter gets way too much attention for this which just gets her more invites back on TV shows where she spews yet again.
This is the kind of thing Carville would handle for the Clinton campaign- not officially connected but able to smack right bac. Does Edwards have somebody like that? Not Trippi I hope.
I'm with Jerry - where are their peeps? I think it was arrogant and mighty egotistical of EE to think that she could force someone irrational into a a "rational discourse". It seemed just as petty and pretentious as Ann Coulter's dumbass remarks.
Oh I forgot, the Edwards are gung-ho about reclaiming America's morality. In this "morality war" of theirs I think actions are better heard than words.
But whatevah...it seems to have given that dead campaign some life. Has anyone noticed how these "Coulter fights" always seems to happen right before disclosure time?
I'm just soooo over the Edwards' mantra "everyone is always picking on us". Get a spine.
It's so sad that a weak ass freak like Ann Coulter keeps punking a presidential candidate. But hey that's me and thinking that a presidential candidate (and his wife) should be able to rise above the fray.
Right. We'll just file this thread away until the next time the wench starts ranting about Hillary's fat ankles, calls her pond scum again or mentions that Bill was a good rapist. Then we'll watch who shows up to defend HRC.
Hillary's already lashed out at Coulter publicly at least once, and I hope she does again. The more the merrier.

major difference between HRC defending wives of 9/11 victims and EE defending her husband.
I think if HRC would have called up Ann and "politely" asked her to quit the name calling (HRC asking someone politely to do anything is a dream in itself) then she also would have taken Bill O'Reilly's invitation to come on his show and debate Ann. EE didn't take O'Reilly's offer.
If you're going to whine about the Republican hacks then why back down and take the fight on a sissy show like The Today's Show.
Oh, must...look...for...sympathy...voters...to...get...last...minute...checks.
EE did the right thing. Sure, debate her, but not on O'Reily. You can't acomplish anything, when your mic. is being cut off our you're being shouted down. It's a fixed game. Whining for money? My goodness... never heard candidates do that before.
"Rational discourse," or insisting on a "civil discourse" implies that the otherside is being irrational or uncivil. Coulter answered her plea "You're asking me to stop speaking?" She called Scarborough's show the other day ranting, raving, and bouncing off the walls, totally reinforcing the assertion that she's shrill and crazy. Hopefully people will be reminded of the insults she threw Bill and Hill's way, the fat ankles and whatever, which had nothing to do with anything, maybe they'll think "why does anyone listen to this nutjob?" Anyway, whoever wins, the party is more important than any candidate, especially in Georgia. Never fall in love with the candidates, or at least try not to. I'll stay away from pimping my favorite POTUS candidates, but on the other side, Thompson seems to be the strongest candidate, and Giuliani is one of their weaker candidates. Giuliani may be their weakest candidate because some of his positions alienate the conservative base. That's not to say that he will definitely win or lose, that's just to say that his positions will weaken the republican party. A candidate should reach out to the general public in the same way he reaches out to his base, which runs counter to conventional wisdom, but there's been research the past few years that indicates that this may be true.
