Reception prior to "Marx in Soho"
"Peace Mom" and newly announced challenger to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Cindy Sheehan will be the guest of honor at a reception prior to the Saturday evening performance of Marx in Soho at 7 Stages Theater.
What: Marx in Soho Live Performance
When: Friday July 13 8:00 PM
AND Saturday July 14: Cindy Sheehan will address the audience from the 7 Stages mainstage beginning at 7:00 PM, performance will follow at 8:00 PM
Where: 7 Stages Theatre, 1105 Euclid Avenue NE, Atlanta
In this imaginative and compelling one-man show, Howard Zinn reminds us of the importance of Marx's ideas while humanizing the man behind them. Through a series of mix-ups, Marx ends up in Soho NY instead of London and tells us of his life, his family and friends.
Please join us for this critically acclaimed one-man show. Both performances are fundraisers for Georgia for Democracy and The Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition. Georgia for Democracy will be donating proceeds to Push Push Theater in appreciation of their ongoing support of our regular free movie screening program. Pass.
At this point, Cindy Sheehan is doing more damage than good.
Agree with Jen. I have lost all respect for Sheehan at this point.
Ok, so GfD plans to raise money by showcasing an Independent who will challenge a Dem Speaker of the House and a play on Karl Marx?
Brilliant idea.
great, just what GA dems need...communism and sheehan, can it get more cliched against us?
All the GFD money goes to Push Push who has be hugely supportive of both entertaining and educating voters with the film club.
Cindy is a new addition to the program best I can tell. The last GFD Digest I got last week didn't mention her. I guess the GA Peace and Justice Coalition must have included her since they are co-sponsor/reciptents of the event.
Cindy running against Nancy, is pretty much a non-event politically IMO
Georgia for Democracy agreed to participate in this fundraiser well before the announcement of Cindy Sheehan's attendance.
As for the play about Karl Marx. Surely you aren't suggesting that there is something wrong with GfD supporting a performance about an important historical figure?
And, just a reminder, Georgia for Democracy is a non-partisan organization with no affiliation with the Democratic Party.
Yes, Cindy was a last minute addition to the program and yes, she's pretty much jumped the shark.
If anyone is going to be in Boston, here's another show to check out:
"Jesus: The Guantanamo Years"
"Jesus Christ (the original stand-up comedian) returns to earth for His long-awaited comeback tour. But He doesn't get past U.S. immigration, because He's a bearded, Middle-Eastern guy, prepared to die as a religious martyr."

Cindy Sheehan has been pretty horrible from the start. I remember her in 2004 talking on Bill Maher's show about how she was the "spark" for the anti-war movement.
It just clicked for me right then that all her antics are just about promoting Cindy, and not about any deeper cause. I can respect nothing that comes out of the woman's mouth and wish she would stop getting invites to events like these.
