Here's an issue that should gain any Dem some votes: College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 - (H R 2669)
What does this Act do:
* cut $19 billion in federal subsidies to student lenders over five year.
* limits monthly payments to 15 percent of the borrower’s discretionary income.
* raises the maximum Pell grants by $500 over the next four years, to a total of $5,200 by 2011.
* grants $5,000 in loan forgiveness for police, firefighters, prosecutors and other public servants.
* a complete release from student loans for public servants after 10 years.
* complete forgiveness of federal student loans after 20 years for economic hardship.
The bill passed 273 to 149. Guess which Georgia Congressman were on the 49 side - none other than:
the "we don't give a crap about the educational needs of Georgia's children" sextuplet band - Nathan Deal, Phil Gingrey, Jack Kingston, John Linder, Tom Price, Lynn Westmoreland.
I guess Lynn Westmoreland didn't really understand what all the hoopla was about since he only went to Georgia State for 2 years and never received a college degree. College, schmollege, who needs it anyway?
Way to go Georgia Rethugs!

I'm sure Dr. Tom Price was puzzled that not all kids can afford 40K a year for school.. I mean really in his white East Cobb North Fulton world of 16 year olds in beemers and Hummers.

Things in his district have changed slightly, very slightly over the last 4-5 months. Instead of getting the finger in Cherokee County for my Dem bumper stickers, i now just get ignored.
It's a step up i think.
