InsiderAdvantage just sent the following alert:
Our sister publication, The Southern Political Report, has learned that former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, who left the United States Senate in the mid-1990s after a long political career in Washington, is being courted by several individuals involved in this year's presidential contest. A group of former Washington operatives, including former Carter administration members Hamilton Jordan and Gerald Rafshoon have been quietly working to create a legitimate third-party effort in 'o8. Nunn has been contacted by that group in an attempt to "take his temperature" with regard to some role in such an effort. What? In a year when there's no shortage of great Democratic candidates for President, why not court Sam for Veep? If these guys pull a Nader, it would be unforgivable.

Maybe he could run for Senate.

Sam won't be running for Senate. He left because, among other things, he couldn't stand the fundraising demands. No way he'd jump into a race where he needs to make up millions as soon as he declared.

I was sort of kidding, but since you took me seriously, why would he run for President, though honestly, I think in a way you have a lot less personal fundraising responsibility as a Presidential candidate. Still have to make calls obviously, but a higher percentage of the work is not done by you directly.

The Senator who helped torpedo Clinton's effort to end discrimination against gay people in the military should not be up for consideration for the Democratic Vice-Presidential nomination.
But the fact that he's being romanced by Unity '08 tells me exactly where the priorities of the party of the opinion pages lie.
