New DNC Member Elected.
Yesterday in Macon, Georgia, the Democratic Party of Georgia selected Mary Long as the new representative from Georgia on the Democratic National Committee. Ms Long's term runs through the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Ms Long received 98 votes, while her opponent, Page Gleason received 95.
The surprise late withdrawl of former Dekalb County Party Chair Barbara Campbell made for a single ballot vote. A post-election resolution presented by Ms Gleason to accept Ms Long's election as unanimous was a classy move that we all hope will unify the party as we move forward.
We all look forward to Ms Long's vibrant leadership as she works closely with the DNC and Georgia Democrats in the coming months.
