Domestic failure

Some times, most times, politics is full of rhetorical bullshit. Politicians with the need for attention will distract the masses by using newsworthy issues to spout their dumb rhetoric instead of proposing solutions to address all angles of the situation.

Case in point, Newt Gingrich and his recent criticism of Bush and Congress:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday he is "sickened" that President Bush and Congress went on vacation "while young Americans in our cities are massacred" by illegal immigrants.

Newt is referring to the execution style killings and shooting of 4 Newark, NJ college students by 6 criminals, including one criminal that was an illegal immigrant.

Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."

"As an American, I am sickened that the political leadership of America could continue to go on vacation and do nothing," he said. "Why are the August vacations for the president and the Congress more precious than the lives of young Americans who are being killed because of government incompetence and inaction."

If Newt is going to criticize the government for its incompetence and inaction, it should be directed towards their failure to provide every American citizen with the basic right of safety.

The judicial system and the American government failed these college students long before that fateful night in an elementary school playground. What occurred on that fateful night was a culmination of failures by a government that has done little to address domestic issues and protect its citizens.

When we live in a society where someone can get released on bond for repeatedly raping a four year old child represents a failed system and government. When we will live in society, where adults coerce juveniles to commit crimes represents a failed system and government. When we will live in a society that cultivates 15 and 16 year olds to believe it is ok to kill another human being represents a failed system and government.

In Newt's eyes the slayings is about illegal immigrant and he thinks

that President Bush should call Congress back into special session for three days to pass a bill in honor of the slain students.

If Congress is going to come back for three days, then let us have them do some real work instead of posturing for the slain students' families.

Let's have them appropriate real dollars to help fight crime in urban cities; let's have them appropriate real dollars to fight drug production and addiction in rural towns, let's have them appropriate real dollars for recreational and job programs for juveniles, let's have them appropriate real dollars to our court system to ease jail overcrowding and insure that criminals remain incarcerated.

Let's have them work to protect American citizens instead of frontin' for the teevee cameras.
