Americans Need Maps

By Jen B. on August 25, 2007 6:11 PM | Comments (12)

icon_flag2.jpgAt the most recent Miss Teen USA pageant, Miss South Carolina was asked the following question, "Recent polls have shown 1/5th of Americans can't locate the US on a world map. Why do you think this is?" Her answer is priceless! And makes me sad for this country. South Carolina, btw, is our neighbor to the southwest.

Oh my! Well bless her heart. Isn't she special?

I would like to again point out that I weep for the future.

You guys don't know what you're talking about. I think we're looking at the next FNC anchor!

Why would we need to locate the US on a world map? We're already HERE. It's kinda like trying to remember your own phone number.

Besides, maps are for geeks.
:-)

I'm terribly embarrassed to say that I watched this live, as it happened... I love my father and stepmother, but they watch THE WORST tv EVER ;-P

This chick clearly is ready to be President of South Carolina. Or is it prime minister?

Not just *any* Americans, mind you, but *US* Americans.

I was sorry New Jersey didn't win (as I'm sure Dennis Kucinich is, too), but that she came in second behind the almost equally-unretarded Colorado did prevent me from committing ritual suicide rather than face the future of America.

I think you guys extrapolate to the future of our country a little too much.

When haven't women gorgeous enough to have everything handed to them turned out as vapid airheads in large numbers? Some with wealthy playboys ... they were born and bred to be dumb.

For Miss USA though, I offer to compensate with Natalie Portman and Danica McKellar. Not only easy on the eyes, but can earn your respect by writing your thesis in the morning.

Um, "some" should be "same" in the above.

"When haven't women gorgeous enough to have everything handed to them turned out as vapid airheads in large numbers?"

I just love the progressive mentality around here, I really really do...

*vomit*

Misogyny is not the exclusive province of the jebus-loving set.

Yeah, okay it was a bit over the top in my expression. What I was after was that many of these girls had the option available of cashing in on assets that were not intellectually derived, and took it.

Not everyone does, see the fine ladies mentioned above (McKellar is Feynman-esque in her strengths in both academia and performance).

But, I wouldn't look to either beauty contests or football teams for the pinnacle of brilliance. The system just ain't built for that.

Odin.. yup.. just look at what the players in the National Felon League have been up to.
