Thursday Thread

icon_thread.jpgYoo Hoo? Pay attention...

When we need an alarm to remind us that we've left a child in the car shouldn't that be considered a wake-up call to slow down and pay attention?

If not that, then maybe when Big Bird and Elmo may be poison?

Or, god forbid, do we have to wait until a bridge collapses?

I'm beginning to feel like Dominique Dunne in Poltergeist!

We are only 2 days into August and already 6 children have died because of the stupidity and ineptitude of f*%&ing adults who obviously do not deserve to have children in the first place.

Georgia ranks 41st in the nation in the recently-released 2007 KIDS COUNT report, a state-by-state study sponsored by the Annie E. Casey Foundation that tracks the well-being of America’s children. According to Family Connection Partnership, the state-level organization that manages KIDS COUNT data, this overall ranking is up from 44th in last year’s report, but Georgia still remains in the bottom 10 of the 50 states.

Highlights include:
• 47th in the nation in the percentage of high school dropouts.
• 42nd in the nation in the infant mortality rate.

Yup but for the right winger crew it's all about the "pre-born". Can't be bothered with you once they are born.

The quote for the day: "I may have created confusion."

Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales sent a letter to Senate leaders Wednesday acknowledging he "may have created confusion"

I hope that Carter is creative like this when he's caught lying through his teeth and has to come up with something quick before mommy gets ahold of him!

the kids in cars article was actually published August 30, 2004

believe me, this does not mean that its not completely insane that 6 kids died in a month because their parents were complete idiots, just not as insane as it happening in 2 days...

CNN has been all over the topic of infant hyperthermia the last few days. And have had some interesting articles.

One thing that really stood out was the statistics. Back when it was we kept children in the front seat, before the problem with airbag deaths became more prevalent, roughly 10 infants died per year to hyperthermia. Now it is roughly 40 infants per year.

So now the ATL is also exporting hookers to Bagdad for the Private contractors to keep company with...

OvVey..

If freaking Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana are testing this, why isn't Georgia??? Aren't those the only three states with lower SAT scores than GA?

"Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana also have found banned drugs in imported seafood, according to statements by regulators in those states. The tests, conducted after the products cleared U.S. ports and were sent on for sale in grocery stores or restaurants, show the FDA isn't adequately protecting consumers from tainted fish, food safety advocates said."

Governor Pawlenty said the bridge had an unusual design and was inspected in 2005 and 2006. No structural deficiencies were detected, he said.

However, the Star Tribune reported that the Federal government had, possibly, a different notion of the quality of the bridge:

The highway bridge that collapsed into the Mississippi River on Wednesday was rated as “structurally deficient” two years ago and possibly in need of replacement.

That rating was contained in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Bridge Inventory database.

Jeanne Aamodt, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, said the department was aware of the 2005 assessment of the bridge. “We’ve seen it, and we are very familiar with it,” she said.
