Big box Barnes?

This is odd. A man is suing Duluth for not allowing Walmart to build a "super store" on his land and his attorney is Roy Barnes.

Duluth landowner files suit over Wal-Mart:

Lasseter said Bandy is being represented by former Gov. Roy Barnes. Messages left at both Barnes' and Bandy's offices after business hours were not returned by press time Tuesday. A Wal-Mart spokesman also could not be reached for comment.

Residents have banded together to oppose the Wal-Mart, which they said does not fit the residential character of their neighborhood. More than 2,300 people have signed an online petition opposing the store.

I suspect Barnes and Bandy are looking at this from a property rights angle, rather than a "let's put Wal-Mart on every street corner."

This is Roy Barnes showing his true colors. He once made a good argument. Lots of people are still moving to metro Atlanta, and we need to find new ways to accommodate all the new folk -- not just the old, environmentally destructive, sprawl-inducing, traffic-causing developments, etc.

When he signed on to defend Wayne Mason's towers in Piedmont Park, he really showed his true colors. I was there that evening as he addressed the City Council committee and addressed the entire crowd there like a bunch of children that needed scolding. (Not that I was against or in favor of Mason's towers -- it had good and bad points)

Roy Barnes really needs a good lesson in smart growth. He has as much trouble distinguishing smart growth from dumb growth as many Republicans I've seen.

Let us also not forget that Barnes pushed for the Northern Arc which would have put sprawl on a fast track in the far reaches of the northern suburbs and partly contributed to his defeat.
