Lawyers on the Front Lines

icon_scale.jpgLegal professionals are often on the metaphorical front lines fighting for civil liberties and democracy, but rarely are they literally so as they have been in Pakistan the past few days. The New York Times has this must watch multi-media slide show depicting some of the clashes between business-suit-clad attorneys and riot police. Watch until the end, when the reporter explains that the average Pakistani fully expects the US to sell them out to a military dictatorship. So much for exporting Democracy.

  • The images of lawyers in business suits fighting teargas are so surreal.

And how ironic is it that Musharraf is doing all this under the pretense of fighting terrorism? He's taking his cues directly from the idiot in chief.
