The AP is reporting that John Edwards will announce at 1PM today that he is dropping out of the race. Though I'm a Hillary supporter, I also liked and admired Edwards and his determination to keep poverty and the working poor in the political dialog. This is the first race I remember in awhile where we had great choices for the nomination, and I just want to take this moment to salute him, his team, and his supporters.
What does that mean for the JJ Dinner tonight though?
UPDATE: Word is Edwards will not be at JJ tonight

I'm thinking Edwards will not show up to JJ if he's dropping out at 1pm in New Orleans, unless he just wants to come by on his way back to Raleigh.
I'm stunned. I thought for sure he'd stick it out through Tuesday.
Calling RuralDem.... where will the Edwards faithful go?
I don't think RuralDem is representative of the majority of Edwards' supporters.
God damn it! What the bloody hell man? Why was I getting two "let's raise $300k today" emails every day right up until this announcement?
Son of a bitch, John. If the primaries was Texas poker, then Super Tuesday was the flop. You'd already paid most of your way in, why not just wait it out another week?
Oh, well. I was hemming and hawing between him and Obama. Pretty easy choice now.
Looks like Super Tuesday's gonna be Millenials versus old Gen X and the boomers (check the SC exit polls to see what I mean).
Let's see what kind of snide remarks the Big Dog can come up with now that it's a one-front war.
Other Edwards devotees are also invited to chime in! As I mentioned in the "Is GA a lock for Obama" thread, I'm open to persuasion.
Just no strong arming
Obama's statement to on the Edwards withdrawal
"John Edwards has spent a lifetime fighting to give voice to the voiceless and hope to the struggling, even when it wasn't popular to do or covered in the news. At a time when our politics is too focused on who's up and who's down, he made a nation focus again on who matters - the New Orleans child without a home, the West Virginia miner without a job, the families who live in that other America that is not seen or heard or talked about by our leaders in Washington. John and Elizabeth Edwards have always believed deeply that we can change this - that two Americans can become one, and that our country can rally around this common purpose. So while his campaign may end today, the cause of their lives endures for all of us who still believe that we can achieve that dream of one America.

will that be in the Denver speech today?
From the Denver event..Obama waited to speak until after Edwards had officially announced at 1pm.
Obama thanked his supporters and praised Democrat John Edwards, who is withdrawing from the presidential race today.
"John has spent a lifetime trying to give voice to the voiceless," Obama said. "He consistently has made us focus on who matters."
"His campaign may have ended, but his cause lives on for all of us who believe we can achieve one America."
