I woke up this morning wondering how many folks who read and comment here are involved in their local county party. Specifically I'd love to know why you are or why not.
2008 seems like a great opportunity for county parties to pick up some members and infuse them with new blood, but I wonder will that pan out? Is your county party welcoming and easy to access, or is it your experience that it's cliquish, tedious and not receptive to the things you'd be interested in doing? Or are the "politics" of the organization just too much to deal with?
The DNC and DPG are rolling out a program for neighbors to contact neighbors and keep them up to speed on the goings on (no link it's still not ready for prime time). Overall it seems like a good idea, but I worry if the neighborhood leaders will be caught in the middle of turf wars with the local party and candidates. " They're my people, no they're my members" etc...
What say you?

i think both can work in harmony and doubt the program will hurt either the state or county party
Is the FDP's plan working with the DPG's neighbor outreach program or is it seperate, i Can't remember.
i've been a post-seat holder in DeKalb since 2004, or a voting-member of the county committee whichever term you like.
The meetings we have once a month are welcoming enough, but there's not much to do or be asked of anyone.
Luckily i have a great House District Chair who is very active and engages the county committee members and other friends and neighbors in the 80th house district. A few of our district chairs are active like that in DeKalb.
I think they will run the DNC/DPG program well, probably use it for house parties and such which tend to work well in this part of the county.
At one point, I was a post-seat holder for Fulton County. I resigned my seat when I moved to Augusta.
I went to one or two local meetings, but the politics in Richmond County is downright nasty and turned me off.
And now, I'm in Cobb. I've made a very lackluster effort to become involved (just ask Juliana!). Cobb needs to have 10am Sunday brunches instead of 8am Saturday breakfasts. And before you say, "You should become involved and change that!" I know that already.
I go to FDP meetings. I've said we should have a county/congressional district wide picnic and I would lead the planning committee and sample prospective BBQ vendors for said event. I'd be the best damn picnic planning committee chairman ever too.
Figuring out how to get Tech students interested in politics pretty well consumes all of my political energies.
You know, it's kind of sad, but I have no real clue what goes on at FCDP meetings. And when I see the announcements, I feel like I'd honestly rather go to a nanomaterials seminar or something.
That, and I don't even have time to sleep let alone become an active party member.
I'm in Barrow County and as far as I know we don't have a functioning Democratic Party. I did look up at some point someone who was listed as the Barrow contact. I do some web design work and offered to do some pro-bono stuff. I got an email back saying thanks, but there hasn't been a Dem meeting in a long time and he didn't know when one would be.
Would love to be somewhat involved, but rural counties really need a jumpstart of some sort I guess.

Olcrazypete,
Barrow Co. does have a functioning party. The current chair is Beth Smith and she would be delighted to have you as a member. Her contact info is barrowdems@yahoo.com
