Oscars 2008

Thoughts on last nights Oscars…

I have one thing to say, what the heck with all the facial hair boys? Are you all in movies that require beards be grown? Colin, Johnny, Javier or was there a razor shortage? Viggo’s at least looked fully grown in, sigh, Viggo.

Oh, and best red dress of the evening… tie; Ruby Dee and Heidi Klum

i didnt hate it, i just didnt love it either. it really needed to be a different color. when things are that dark, you lose a lot of the detail work (see Hilary Swank this year)

Oh she looked good. Who wouldn’t in a Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel one-of-a-kind, designed-for-her gown?

i think i was the only one who liked Penelope Cruz’s dress. I think she’s stunningly beautiful to begin with, and the dress, yes it looked furry, was unique.

i think that is an excellent point about the red carpet. red looks so great with some things, and so horrible with others. they should do a white carpet.

and yes mel, i too was disappointed in the overabundance of black. would have loved to see more blues

oh and i didnt officially write about it, but i did like Amy Adam’s hunter green dress. it was a beautiful rich dress. the bust was sleak and interestesting. the bottom was a little weird, but overall was quite lush and went perfectly with her complexion and hair.

would be happy to do this in the future! 🙂

Mel, I think that’s the probelm, a giant ass red carpet as the background.

Many of the dresses were lovely except if you are standing in a lake of red. The Julie Christie fabric (ignore gloves and bad shoes for a sec) as an example probably was beautiful in her taupe/cream/beige closet but once on that carpet we all wanted to claw out our eyes.

Same with the arm candy with Clooney, it was a Monet painting, but really would Claude have hung it on a red ass wall, I doubt it.

Nicolette has outdone herself and I nominate her to be our front page correspondent next year!

So, this is sort of a delayed reaction, but what’s with all the black? I want to see COLOR on the red carpet. I want to see big flowing gobs of silk, slinky things with beads, little french touches, not a bunch of shrouds.

    part 4

    James McAvoy and Guest

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=75

Yeah yeah – he’s hot, and the tux looks good. He was also quite funny in his bit with James Brolin. But I have to say, I’m totally digging his guests dress. Love the color (as its also a color nicolette has been known the rock lately), and its just plain pretty. Hair is lame though

    Helen Mirren

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=76

THE QUEEN! Love it! Love everything about it. The color, the fit, the sleeves. Jennifer Hudson – take note, THIS is how oscar winners dress when the grace the red carpet again. Stacey (of Clinton and Stacey WNTW) and T-Lo (of Project Rungay) gave a thumbs down to the sleeves. I thought they were fantastic, and allowed Helen to feel confident in her dress. Another one of the big winners of the night.

    Michael Moore

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=77

only posted because I know his wife……or at least I used to when she was the mother of one of my childhood friends. Cause lord knows if I knew her now I would not have let her step out of the house looking like that!

    Viggo Mortenson

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=78

Like the tux, like the rose, even if it looks a little wedding-y….but yeah…..is he in the middle of shooting the role of Hemmingway with that beard? He just looks so old….

    Ellen Page

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=82

Well if you are going to do goth girl goes glam, then this would be the way to do it. Loved the necklace, liked the hair. The dress was pretty, even if it was a little boring

    Saoirse Ronan

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=87

I am all about age appropriateness in clothes, but I’m sorry, this looks like the flower girl dress I wore in my Aunt Michelle’s wedding when I was 5. The pony tail is also a little too juvenile for me

    Keri Russell

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=92

eh – her boobs look weird. It’s a fine dress and I like the necklace. However, I totally want her to let down her hair and yell FELICITY!

    Tilda Swinton

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=100

hated this dress, with a passion. I just don’t know where to begin. It has the ability to be completely unremarkable, and yet be completely ugly at the same time. And it really does look like they just forgot to sew on the other sleeve. When she went up to accept her oscar she actually looked kind of mad, and I’m not sure if it was out of joy for winning of if she was upset that she looked this bad on such a momentous occasion.

    Renee Zellweger

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=107

Ok – I will swallow my pride, I do love it, even if I don’t like her. Also really like the hair cut, it does well on her.

    Summary!

Winners – Jennifer Garner, Helen Mirren, Cameron Diaz

Losers – Daniel Day Lewis’s Wife

    [The END!]

    Daniel Day-Lewis and Rebecca Miller

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=32

Oh god. Oh good god. Since it was Daniel’s night, I will pretend to give him the “oh so you know the rules so you can break them” excuse but I’m sorry, what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is his wife wearing? The unnecessary ribbon straps? The ill-fitted skirt? The shoes? The plastic looking gigantic flowers? Oh dear, you need to hire a stylist when you go to the Oscars…….preferably one that is gay!

    Ruby Dee

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=33

this is one of the few dresses I did not see move, but I did hear about it. I think it is quite elegant and very age and oscar appropriate. She looks comfortable in it, which always helps with the overall effect. Love the belt detail

    Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=37

I know that I’m going to get crap from some on this, but I’m tired of Johnny trying to dress different on the red carpet. Just once I would love to see him look classic, but ce la vie. His wife looks like Elvira

    Cameron Diaz

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=38

One of my favorites of the night. I thought the color looked great on her, and it was a fantastically constructed dress. (However a second looks have me wanting to retract this a little. pictures of the back shows some puckering and poor fit, and the bottom needs to be ironed!)

    Calista Flockhart

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=46

Love the colors on this dress, even if it’s a little simple. Hate the hair

    Jennifer Garner

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=48

Definitely one of the winners of the night. I thought everything worked. The dress, the hair, the jewels….maybe not the bag. I don’t think this is the best picture of it, but overall I was a fan.

    Anne Hathaway

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=49

I was not the biggest fan of this dress. I just thought the flowers were too much. Made me think of a horse that just won the Kentucky derby. Plus I feel like I always see her hair back in a ponytail, would like to see it down every once in a while.

    Katherine Heigl

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=53

This was another one where at first I didn’t like it, but then it grew on me. I thought the shoulder detail was very interesting. The proportions and fit were great. I also really liked the hair. In the end, I think it was the lipstick and caused the aversion for me. It was a little too matchy match. Also, cant really tell what her bag looks like, but it looks like something I may not be too big of a fan of (also Рanyone else thinks she looks a lot like kim catrell?)

    Jennifer Hudson

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=60

Oh honey. Its just…….its just that it looks like something that someone wore to my senior prom. You are an OSCAR WINNER ‚Äì look like a star dammit! (hair is not that great either btw)

    Nicole Kidman

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=65

siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh………..i just hate the necklace. Like with a passion. it looks like christmas tree tinsel! And it looked even worse when she was on stage and it was all disheveled

    Marlee Matlin

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=74

I don’t have much to say about the dress. It was fine, not fantastic. Hair is great (as always…..i so want marlee matlin hair). The watch is a crime though. However what is a total crime is that I saw during the Oscars that she is going to be on the next “Dancing with the Stars”. Come on Marlee – you are totally better then that!

now to try part 2 (yeah – i really did not want to work yesterday)

    Julie Christie

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=16

Love the hair, hate just about everything else. Especially the gloves

George Clooney and “Girl everyone hates” Sarah Larson

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=18

Sigh……..George……..whenever you are in my dreams you are always wearing a tux. I have to say, I am totally digging Sarah’s Valentino Couture. I thought it was very pretty and for me stood out on the carpet as being something different and interesting, without being weird

    Diablo Cody

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=20

I love her movie. Her story is great. But I’m sorry, she really looks like “stripper gets dressed up for a night on the town”. Its awful. And I just don’t get the jewelry around the collar, it looks like its been bedazzled.

    Marion Cotillard

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=22

I have to say that initially I was not the biggest fan of this dress. But the more and more I look at it, the more I like it. I’m still not completely sold, but it is still pretty hand has good proportions and a nice silhouette. If it had been any other color then white it would have been a complete disaster.

    Miley Cyrus

    http://www.oscar.com/redcarpet/?g=0&i=30

I think she was there because it was an abc event and she was introducing a song from a disney movie. Not the best logic in the world, but whatevs. As far as the dress, not bad not great. I though it was very age appropriate. The bow in the back sucks though

I am not a fan at all. Kristen Chenoweth has such a cute petite little frame, and this dress ends up making her the opposite of sexy, it pulls her down and makes her a little matronly.

Daniel Day Lewis may be weird, but he sure is HOT! And, really, hasn’t he always been weird?

Where was everyone last night? Steve Martin? Michael Douglas? Warren Beatty? Annette Benning? Billy Crystal? Steven Speilberg? Changing of the guard, I guess.

Tilda was in her rare strange-hair form, but hey she’s unique.

Georgia Clooney looked swell, and I agree with JerryT, Diane is a knockout.

And what was with everyone slipping on the same spot on the stage. Freaky. Tom Hanks walked over it like there was no spot, funny.

And Josh Brolin…Diane is a lucky woman.

Daniel Day Lewis gets weirder every year, when will Johnny Depp ever get his dam oscar for crying out loud, and Tommy Lee Jones was WAYYYY better than expected in No County for Old Men.

I’ll add Helen Mirren to the “Best Dressed”. And she definitely has the best attitude/personality.

Did anyone catch the Gary Busey freakiness on the Red Carpet? Very odd. Must say that Ryan Seacrest handled himself well.
