Will President Bush Veto?

By Jen B. on February 14, 2008 10:35 AM | Comments (5)

icon_flag.jpgOn Wednesday, the Senate joined the House in restricting the CIA's interrogation techniques - including waterboarding. The Senate vote was close, 51-45.

"Retaliation is the way of the world. What we do to others, they will do to us — but worse," Rockefeller said. "This debate is about more than legality. It is also about morality, the way we see ourselves ... and what we represent to the world."
McCain voted against it, which is somewhat surprising considering his staunch anti-torture position in the debates. Clinton and Obama didn't vote and I can only assume they made sure the measure would pass before deciding not to make the trip to Washington.

"McCain voted against it, which is somewhat surprising considering his staunch anti-torture position in the debates" Actually, this is not surprising at all considering his complete and total moral bankruptcy in pursuit of the presidency.

Also, Senator Rockefeller can bite me. He has been a staunch proponent of telco immunity from the get go.

I guess I expected better of him on this one issue. In the debates, he was pretty explicit that waterboarding is torture and the Army Field Manuel was sufficient and now he votes the complete opposite?

Of course, I don't think this vote will hurt him since the majority of Americans approve of torture..

"I can only assume they made sure the measure would pass before deciding not to make the trip to Washington."

Well I am glad someone has idealism.

They didnt vote because they cant afford time off the campaign trail if you ask me. But you weren't. So I am giving it to you anyways.

Happy frikkin Valentine's Day.

Heh.

To be perfectly honest, I think most politicians are selfish, crooked, SOBs. Perhaps Clinton and Obama didn't want to be on the record taking a stand against torture when most Americans support it. But they did come back for the stimulus package, that way they can say, "Hey! I voted to give you a $600 check!" That's all well and good, but that $600 check isn't going to bring back the manufacturing jobs.

I try to be a little optimistic, otherwise what's the point of being involved?

"I try to be a little optimistic, otherwise what's the point of being involved?"

You are asking the wrong person.
