Trading folk art for flashy fear mongering

Picture-4.jpg

Some of you may remember Paul Broun's homespun campaign identity from last year, but if not here's a refresher.

Well it appears Mr. Broun has gone all nouveau riche and traded his humble (and perhaps inadvertently successful) visuals for something much more, well, creepy. Clearly Mr. Broun now subscribes to the Republican model of campaign terrorism that aims to scare the bejesus out of voters in an attempt to garner their support. Apparently Republicans can't get out of bed in the morning unless they are scared half to death.

Once past the scary movie about the end of civilization as we know it, the user is met with cheesy music followed by Paul Broun's booming voice and NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF. Presumably this is to prevent anyone from actually reading the text on the front page since it's virtually impossible to read and hear different messages simultaneously. Even if you aren't chewing gum, drinking coffee and talking on the phone at the time.

All that aside, he does appear to have his media game on and has some reasonably slick videos (read widescreen), on 10 topics so far. Someone has been very busy wrangling every crap plugin imaginable in AfterEffects. Oh yes they have.

To my eye, Broun's campaign image has gone from one of plainspoken confidence to something much more desperate and brooding. He seems to be drinking his own kool-aid, or at least that's what I assume it takes for an incumbent Congressman to run against Congress.

Whether the graphic equivalent of heads on pikes will help inoculate Mr. Broun against the tide of Democratic voters expected to flood the polls this cycle is doubtful. That's assuming he even makes it through the Republican Primary against hairdo and husband of hairdo.

With any luck at all, Broun will be defeated or significantly weakened in the primary and Saxon will reap the benefits in November. It may be just this scenario that has Paul Broun running so scared.

Holy crap! That's some slick stuff! I have to say, Broun's site really inspires me. Inspires me to do better, you know? Wearing a chicken suit and throwing a rock in a pond ain't gonna cut it this year. No, to attack Paul Broun, we're going to have to take lampooning to a whole new video level.

I mean, it's the least we can do.

Back to Lynda.com with me!

I kept expecting the narrator to say, "Coming this summer, to a theater near you!"

Really. These guys are the poor man's Imaginary Forces: http://imaginaryforces.com/

And Shelby, the chicken suit may be low tech, but it's high art.
