So I have a question, does this mean we will have gun tot'n crazy Cobb rednecks riding Marta? Oh yeah Marta doesn't go to Cobb.
Oy, and who does this make happy again? Clearly I'm confused

With equal protection under the law, I'm sure that our Legislators will agree that this logic makes metal detectors at the Capitol and court houses obsolete. (Why the double standard?)

Does that mean you can shoot someone for eating on MARTA if you feel threatened by their cheeseburger?

I know republicans love their guns, but I also thought they loved minimal gov't and private property as well. Sonny can't sign a bill forcing restaurants to allow patrons to carry their concealed weapons inside. This is the biggest reason this bill makes me sick - yet another example of the crazies that are taking over the party.
At least I can see the Marta and State park argument, since these are gov't run. However, in their haste to allow weapons on Marta, I don't think they thought everything through. Many employers/schools/sports areanas do not let weapons on their property, unless Sonny changed that too. Unless I'm mistaken, many of the Marta patrons I sit next to every morning and night are heading to either work, school, or the Braves game, and, thus, would not be able to carry a weapon even if they wanted to. So where does that leave us? The other people who ride marta. Republicans would probably be quick to call them the thugs, gangsters, and rif-raf. And, lets face it, some of them are. They would be the ones with the ability to carry a weapon on marta. Smart thinkin' there purr-doo.
I guess it's time to put my military grade mace back in the bag.

Lets not forget that Dubose Porter and Rob Teilet were right there with those "Republican crazies" in voting for this bill.

The bill sucks, agreed, but the state park part is really hard to vote against if you are in a seat or plan on running for one that isn't solidly democratic.
You have to remember that this bill came to the floor soon after the woman was murdered in the state park by the serial killer. There was no political cover to vote against that.

So the legislature wanted to ensure that future serial killers could bring guns to state parks?

Don't argue like they do. It is beneath us.

Not like they weren't going to do it before.

But before, they could be arrested for it before they used it.
MOTS, when our state legislators show that they're motivated by higher arguments, I'll use one.

"But before, they could be arrested for it before they used it."
There aren't police checks at state parks and no ranger is going to stop someone if it looks like they have a gun.
I'm pro gun and generally fall in line with the Republicans when it comes to laws preventing people carrying guns where they are outlawed, they aren't going to stop anyone, criminal or not, from carrying a gun into a place with no checks.
that said, this bill is kind of dumb.

IIRC, park rangers are law enforcement officers - so yeah, I figure they would stop and frisk a suspicious person, and if they're carrying contraband, deal with it.
Of course, now that guns aren't contraband, I suppose they'll have to limit themselves to, what, beer? Fireworks?
