The five month bubble bath.
Our younger readers may not recall this reference to the 70's iconic advertisement for bath products.
I keep thinking that someone or something will inspire me to jump right on board with our presumptive nominee. I think he's a great candidate and will be a great President. I nearly voted for him and would have been happy to have cast a vote for him. All my 50+ years I have thought that the world would be better with more women in leadership positions so when I had the chance to vote for a dynamic, smart, accomplished woman as our nominee, I did. It was a tough decision that took me until the last moments in line.
While I know 2004 was much different, with Kerry the presumptive nominee so early in the game, I am sorry that the mood isn't similar. For those of you who have been hiding under a rock, I was a Dean supporter in 2004. You would think the move from Dean to Kerry would have been difficult and unlikely. And, it would have been but for very kind, generous, and welcoming people among the Kerry supporters here in Georgia. Sure, there were jokes about "the scream" but our ideas and willingness to work were welcomed and encouraged.
Who knew the "good ole days" would be just one cylce back? The five month bath sounds good. Or maybe I'll read all the John LeCarre books I have piled up on the bench? Or teach myself how to make really good bread? Or, better yet, help Representative John Lewis, State Senator Nan Orrock, Bill Gillespie, Keith Gross, and other candidates who welcome the support.

Hey, BHO is my fourth (!) candidate and I'm willing to welcome you on board.

Did I miss something here?
"...and other candidates who welcome the support."
Do any of you think for a moment I or other Obama folks are not welcoming the support here in Georgia? God knows it is going to take all of us working together to get this done.
If anyone is running into ANY issues with Obama people, please let me know. I don't have much pull but I know who to call.
Maybe I should have spoken up last week but to be honest, I wanted to wait rather than sound condecending to those that spent so much time and effort working for Hillary.

Well I'm helping Jason Adams and Jon Flack!
I await the 50 state Obama team members to help get me engaged for all that whoha. I wasn't part of the primary process with this campaign so I really don't have any connection one way or the other. So I can't say I'd be welcomed or not.
However, I think it's exciting that they are making this plan, now. Even though Kerry was the nominee we had to wait till after Labor Day for his point person to be assigned and it was chaos as all the groups formed, broke up, formed again, did the "meet-up" but not "do-Up" thing.. Not anxious to re-live that thanks.
For now, it think it's completely understandable to want to have some down time.
I imagine by late August it will be very different, and we can hit the fall season running.

sndeak - yesterday I took a few minutes from my day to check in on the Georgia/Atlanta Obama website. There is not much of a welcoming feeling from the individual posters. Sure, there are official labels and marks all over saying "Thank you, Hillary" but when you drill down you find a lot of nastiness.
I've said it a number of times - I don't think this anger/nastiness is coming from Senator Obama - it's coming from some of his supporters. In any event, it doesn't make me clamor out of work every day to go do something for the campaign.

I'm not part of the local campaign, but I just perused the Georgia website and unless I just don't know where to look I don't see any nastiness at all. All I really see, apart from the national content, are a lot of events to register new voters.
On a national level, the Obama campaign is bringing the Clinton structure into the fold in numerous ways and presumably will continue to do so. They also I presume will be urging local groups to do what they can to bring local Clinton voters on board.
Speaking as only one person who didn't work for the campaign but was an ardent Obama supporter and someone who wasn't real fond of Clinton by the end, my goal for the last week has been to start emphasizing to every voter I know, regardless of who they supported in the primary or which party they normally tend towards, the positives of Obama's candidacy and the reasons why he should be given a chance to earn every single person's vote. I think everyone who supports Obama should be prepared to make this positive sales pitch to undecided voters, and I'm hopeful that despite the heel digging that happened in the extended primary we will all be able to put away any baggage from the primary fight for good and focus on this next phase of the campaign.

Nobody said this was gonna be real easy. It's been a long and sometimes nasty campaign.
As I have said before, I have more friends and know more Clinton supporters through the party than Obama supporters.
For every Clinton supporter that is offended by the "You are likable enough" comment there are Obama supporters, like me, that were ticked off about the "I have experience, McCain has experience and Obama has a speech from 2002". We are gonna be fighting that comment all the way to Nov. 4th.
As far as HRC for VP issue goes and the Unity ticket, I'll tell you what I have heard and seen. Maybe this will help some people understand why there is so much push back on the idea..
In the middle of the campaign Clinton about Sen. Obama on the ticket as her VP when he was leading in delegates. Add that to the push by Lanny Davis and others to force her onto the ticket and you are going to get resistance.
We couldn't get to the reconciliation and unity part in 06. Let's do better this year. I'll do whatever I can to temper the rhetoric.

sndeak-- some of the things you won't be able to control as they're supporters we overhear a table over, etc., at Manuels, but when we hear vitriol about Hillary from a GA delegate it's a little harder for us to ignore, but does make it easier for you to help control the message. I'm NOT going to name names, but it might be good if someone has an email list of Obama GA delegates to send out talking points and maybe a link to http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/06/its_now_all_about_respect.html or some other equivalent link...
