Rand Knight picked up another endorsement yesterday, this one from the Georgia Association of Educators.
Know any good Democrats in Senate District 13? State Senator Joseph Carter, the lone Republican who qualified, has decided to seek a judgeship instead, leaving the seat wide open. The district covers all of Lee, Worth, Tift, Irwin, Ben Hill, Turner and Crisp counties and part of Wilcox.

Why are groups endorsing Rand Knight? Seriously. Shouldn't electability figure in there somewhere? This reminds me of the, I think, human rights campaign debate where Meliisa Etheridge asked if there was anything in their platform Dennis Kucinich didnt agree with with, he said no, and still I don't think they endorsed him. Why? He can't win! By the way, did they just endorse him, or did they endorse the Three Amigos?

Beats me. On paper, he looks like a solid candidate. In person, it's a different story.

Can someone familiar with election law elaborate on the situation with Senator Carter's seat?
I thought the primary would be reopened for anyone to run, however, the way I'm understanding it, only Republicans can file to run now, and Senator Carter's name will still show on the ballot, I guess because the absentee ballots have already been printed with his name.
Why not reopen it for both parties? Is this common?

From what I gather, since no Dems qualified for that race, and qualifying for parties is closed, the Repubs can offer a replacement candidate but Dems can't.
There seems to be a question about whether an independent candidate could still qualify, and I've been looking through the election code, and I haven't found anything that would prevent that. At least up until about 1 hour ago. 21-2-132(d)(1) says independent candidates can file up to noon on the Friday following the 4th Monday in June. Which is today. But I think they might have had to get all their signatures on a petition by then too, so unless they had that done already...
