Congrats to Dee Dawkins-Haigler who won the Special Election Runoff yesterday for HD 93 (Dekalb, Rockdale). She now goes on to the Primary in July and to the General Election in November. Four elections in six months! Whew.

Congrats to Dee as well, but I don't believe that the election was a true reflection of the voters. It is sad that only 549 voters came out, when the district has over 28,000 voters.

I read the following quote by Mr. Douglas in the June 11 edition of the Rockdale Citizen: " They didn't understand why we were going through a runoff election and then on to another election next month. I don't think this is a true reflection of how they feel, so we'll do it again and hopefully be victorious in July."

What is patently striking to me is the assumption that if Mr. Douglas didn't win, then the numbers don't reflect how voters in the district feel. Now I'm sure both he and Mrs. Haigler made numerous calls to likely voters and did all they could to get them to do their civic duty. But to say that the numbers are not reflective of the will of the people in the district is borderline disrespectful to both the voters in HD93 and to Mrs. Haigler. So as the young folk say, "Don't playa hate, congratulate!"
