DSCC Poll says Martin within Range of Saxby

Mellman Group Poll shows Jim Martin trailing Saxby Shambliss 42-36, but leads by double digits among those that recognize both names.

AJC's political insider story here, and congratulations to Jim Galloway for surviving the carnage of late at the AJC.

Poll memo here.

  • Hmmm ... there's a lot of different slicing and dicing here. I'm always a little suspicious of the "knows both candidates" type picture and how that sample skews.

However, I do find it interesting that almost all of the people that are moved to the "undecided column" when comparing this poll and the public polls are from Saxby.

  • I think it's good enough news that Martin is this close. Those are certainly workable numbers. And like most Repug's if you really Knew him, even most of his kin would be be against Saxby! Cheers, JMP

  • A pushpoll by the DSCC has the Democrat within striking distnace?!

    NO o_o

  • I would be more interested in seeing a gallup or rasmussen poll.

I'm proud that Jim actually "threw a bow" in the primary runoff. Will he be able to stand the test and go head to head with Saxby? If so I think he has a decent shot.

  • Look if you guys actually think candidates are dumb enough to waste $20,000 or more on a "push poll" that's one thing, but Mellman is a very respected pollster that among other clients is used by Marshall and Barrow who have consistently won in districts where Democrats are certainly not guaranteed to win in.

I'd love to see a Gallup poll but as Rasmussen is a robo-call clearly there is a value here in the fact that live interviewers vetted likely voters and could also tell if they were talking to a man or woman etc.

  • Chris,

What's going on with your race? Anything we can do?

  • Zaid,

Seriously man, your naïvety is showing. It is become increasingly clear you don't know what you are talking about. You seem intent on simply reiterating the lexicon of the politically disaffected without any understanding of its import. You don't respect other's opinions on this site, calling them "dopes" and "idiots", yet your responses are the only one I have read with zero value. Cynicism from experience is one thing, cynicism that comes from buying a Che shirt at the mall is something else. I, personally, long for the day you become a nihilist.

  • MOTS speaks for me!

  • Love ya, Smitty!

  • MOTS is a very wise person.

  • Hey a Che shirt is still cool, and I love the Nihilists in The Big Lebowski.. Zaid seems like neither righteous like Che or cool like he "dude". I'm just saying

  • IRE,

Please, tell us you're playing this Zaid character.

Someone come in this post and take the credit.

  • Naw, he's real. I can vouch.

I think I prefer him to the Peach folks at the moment. Dudes honestly thought an opinion piece was evidence for a position.

  • google is your friend

  • "your responses are the only one I have read with zero value"

So the implication is that my comments have more value than Zaid's? Damn dude that is just cold.

  • Maybe in the sense that an albatross has more value than an anchor.

  • BTW: You should change your name to jerky McJerkface. oooooooooooooooooooo...

  • Y'all are having a meeting with Prince Albert at the McDonalds? What's up with that?

  • IRE, where are you? Buddy? Pal?
