McCain Bloggers Getting Desperate
Since that whole Obama-is-like-Paris-and-Britney meme didn’t work out so well, the McCain campaign is now linking Obama supporters to those lovable fantasy role-players.
Michael Goldfarb of the John McCain campaign oddly disses gamers in his post yesterday on the John McCain blog.
It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman’s memory of war from the comfort of mom’s basement, but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others. (emphasis added)
Yeah, I don’t get it either. Ataru Atlanta, you gonna stand for this?

He’s totally got it wrong. The D&D crowd are militant Paultards.
True dat
I can’t believe anyone still remembers D&D. They may as well have dissed the bingo crowd.
Beware the wrath of the D& D crowd is all I’m saying. Those folks can get medieval on McShames ass…
Haha shouldn’t be it World of Warcraft crowd now?
Besides, wasn’t Obama one of those who wanted to ban violent games? If that’s the case, then it makes them look even more whacked out.
I don’t know if he wanted to ban video games. I think he just wanted kids to put them down once in a while and do some homework.
And I also agree … the Mama’s Basement types are usually Libertarians talking about how big and hardworking and independent they all are and how dumb everyone else is.
Also, I think it’s about right on that McCain’s talking about Dungeons and Dragons. Since he can’t use a computer, he’s stuck with pencil-and-paper games.
Bonus points for reaching out to all the culture warrior retards that thought pasty kids in the basement were the end of society.
McCain’s Charisma just lost four points.
I haven’t played D&D in years, probably not since college. But all the same, this is patently offensive to those that still do.
What is going to be lost in the coverage of this latest gaffe is just how out of touch the McCain camp truly is. Goldfarb reached into his back pocket of nightmares and whipped out an at-home demon that’s about 25 years past its prime. What parent is the least bit concerned these days about their kids losing a soul or two through a role-playing game, one played with pencils, paper and dice?!?
If the McCampaign were the least bit current, they’d cite some other distraction. GTA IV, Halo or anything else involving a game console, perhaps. But instead, they’re slinging snark from 1985.
Of course, maybe the saddest thing of all is not that McCain is living in the past — that’s no surprise at all — but that everyone is so quick to run with the stereotype they’ve been offered, to say that the so-called D&D types are really just a bunch of Paultards and so on. Does this mean that picking on nerds is just the easiest bipartisan position to take? Guess so.
+1 Thomas
Blogging is a pretty nerdy, niche activity too. How does this roll off the tongue?
If by blogger living in their mom’s basement you mean Andrew Sullivan.
