"It's the longest Hail Mary pass in the history of either football or Marys."

From NBC's Mike Viqueira For what it's worth, the man who is leading congressional Democrats in negotiating the bailout deal with the administration isn't impressed with Sen. McCain's announcement.

LOL Barney, finally it took a gay man to explain to me all that "sportspeak"

did you really not know that Jules? If you didn't that is a real knockout punch. Don't worry, I'll teach you. You'll be knocking em out of the park in no time! Just be careful because the shot clock is winding down.

Well, earlier today I said (wrote actually) that he was running out the clock, or playing rope-a-dope. I couldn't decide which. Then Paula got wacky.

What the heck is "rope-a dope"? Sounds like it could be fun after lots of drinks and the right shoes.

Yes, Mel I saw that e-mail thread, but heck if I understood one word of it..

Thunder.. honey please remember I live a very sheltered life sequested with my Vogue magazine, WWD (Womens Wear Daily)Mother Jones and Campaigns and Elections.. popular culture esp. sports is like a whole other land to me, and not one I really want to visit, unless David Beckham is there with his shirt off naturally.

Oh oh oh! I know this one! Rope-a-dope is the strategy that Muhammad Ali used against George Foreman (before he was a countertop kitchen appliance magnate) during the famous "rumble in the jungle". Ali knew that he couldn't match Foreman in strength, but he could wear him down with endurance. So Ali encouraged Foreman to trap him against the rope and pummel him, wasting his energy. Then, when Foreman was exhausted, Ali came out swinging. :)

And that, ladies and gentleman, was the sum total of all my boxing knowledge. Enjoy.
