GOP eyes foreclosures for challenges

iconLose your house. Lose your vote.

In Michigan and Ohio, Republican party attorneys and activists are collecting lists of foreclosed-upon homes in preparation for election day. The intention being to challenge the registration of potential voters whose addresses appear on the lists.

The Macomb County party’s plans to challenge voters who have defaulted on their house payments is likely to disproportionately affect African-Americans who are overwhelmingly Democratic voters. More than 60 percent of all sub-prime loans – the most likely kind of loan to go into default – were made to African-Americans in Michigan, according to a report issued last year by the state’s Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

Experts suggest this tactic may not be legal. It certainly is mean-spirited.

Smart idea on the GOP’s part, but, it reeks of desperation.

It’s one thing to do it based on legal reasons and respect for the legal aspect of everything.

It’s another thing to do it because you know you’re about to get your ass handed to you, and instead of taking the beating, you suddenly decide that you respect the law.

I’m honestly surprised they haven’t taken to the radio waves and told their minions to hack the rest of us to death with machetes yet.

Wow. That’s just awesome. It’s like they think of these things and cannot stop themselves from doing it.

Wow. I repeat: wow. Now this would be a great subject for an attack ad. Maybe with a little footage of John S. “I have seven houses” McCain thrown in.
