Obama on O’Reilly

Did anyone watch this last night? I was too busy laughing at Angela and Bernita's Denver stories.

  • Good job!

And I can't believe the O'Reilly said that Obama was right about Iraq being the wrong battleground.

  • Biden on a stick -rulzs

  • I can't believe O'Reilly's going to milk this thing for three days to get his ratings up.

If nothing else, that should be a sign that Fox News needs Democrats more than Democrats need Fox News. We should let Ailes' prop-shop die on the vine once Obama is President.

  • Fox News will align itself with the power - be it Left, Right, Middle. Purple, Blue, or Green. They want advertisers. Advertisers want viewers. It's business.

  • Yup, and until they play ball, I see no reason to help them stay fed.

  • Yup, and until they play ball, I see no reason to help them stay fed.

Scratch that - until they play ball or decide to practice some journalistic integrity.

  • Eh, I like Fox News.

You just have to go into watching it knowing there's a likely bias.

CNN, MSNBC, etc all have a "progressive" bias, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.

  • The problem is their whole claim of being "fair and balanced" and "no spin"... both of which are a crock of stinking poo.

But I like how Obama handled O'Reilly.

  • cnn has a progressive bias? They owe their continued existence to a regular schedule of wars.

They can't wait to repeat breathless commentary from right wing blogs.

How can they possibly justify going to Bill Bennett, Bay Buchanon, and Ann Coulter for commentary? Do they have any relevance at all to anything currently going on? At least Carville can be entertaining, and Brazille still participates.

How can they justify such an evil partisan hack as Glenn Beck having his own show? Who is the progressive counterpart to that? Larry King?

    Just look at their lineup:

    Lou Dobbs

    Wolf Blitzer

    Larry King

    Nancy Grace

    Glen Beck

"Progressive" bias compared to what? National Review?

Anderson Cooper MIGHT have a progressive slant compared to the others, but why? Because he shows a little compassion?

And don't get me started on MSNBC.

  • JT,

In that case, I retract my statement about Fox News.

They're not biased, because, occasionally Bob Beckel or Kirstin Powers is on there.

Oh, and Colmes co-hosts a show, so Fox has no bias!

  • I don't think it is fair to look at a lineup of talking heads to judge the slant of a TV channel. Much like an editorial board, they are there simply to provide an opinion, but they do not in anyway speak for the newsroom or editors of the TV station.

That's just how I feel. Then again I've been feeling philosophical about the career I will be leaving in a matter of months.

  • IRE - It would be a better comparison if newspapers were, like, 80% editorial page and 20% news...

  • OK, that's cool. So something about the content of the news is slanted? The selection of stories? What, because they have Jeannie Moos doing humorous pieces they have a progressive bias? I still don't see it. I think the news is actually pretty neutral; the readers seem to try to be, and I don't see much in their selection of stories to indicate to me that they have a progressive bias. I mean, compared to what?

  • CSPAN people.. I Tivo in 8 hour sections and watch the relevent parts before going to bed.

I haven't watch that other stuff in years, seriously bad for your health.

  • JT,

I think Fox News is more GOP friendly in their news stories, while CNN is more "progressive" friendly.

It's amazing how different those annoying tickers tend to label things.

Little things like that tell me there's bias.

I tend to think every network has some form of bias.

Fox has more of a party bias in favor of the GOP while CNN is more ideologically biased in favor of liberals.

  • iM JUST SAYING IF WE ARE DOING CONTENT ANALYSIS OF THE NEWS EITHER PRESENTS...FNC HAS AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THEIR NEWS PRESSENTED BY THEIR TALKING HEADS. CNN DOESN'T.

NOW THIS MAY BE IRRELEVANT (BUT I DON'T THINK IT IS) FOR THIS REASON...FNC PRESENTS THEIR NEWS AS OPINION.

NOW IF WE LOOK AT RAW PERCENTAGES OF THEIR COVERAGE SURE FNC DOESN'T COMPARE TO THE NYT IN TERMS OF EDITORIAL SLANT (THE LATTER OF COURSE, IS LOOKING MORE FOR INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE RATHER THAN WHAT WILL DRIVE READERSHIP STATS AND I GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR THAT) HOWEVER, IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO SAY THAT THERE IS A BIAS IN WHAT IS PRESSENTED TO THE U.S. PEOPLE. LOOK PLEASE, ENGAGE ME IN THIS DEBATE WHILST NOT SUPPORTING THE VARIOUS SUPPORTIVE ARGUMENTS FOR CERTAIN SPIRITS.I WILL HAVE THIS DISCUSSION ANY TIME, JUST SHOW UP BE LIKE DUDE, YOU SAID BRING THE ARGUMENT AND I'LL BE LIKE OK LET'S DEBATE AS FOR NOW, I WILL SAY...LOOK AT HOW ONE WOULD CONDUCT A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF HOW YOU COULD REVIEW THE NEWS...FNC WOULD BE OPINION BASED AND CNN WOULD BE MORE NEWSY AND CNN WOULD LIKELY WIN (IN WHATEVER ARBITRARY METHOD WE ARE SCORING THE VARIOUS NETWORKS). IF ANY OF THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, EMAIL ME. IF YOU DON'T HAVE MY EMAIL AND YOU STILL HAVE QUESTIONS EMAIL THE IRE. WORD.

  • so maybe tonight isn't my best night it happens. my point still stands.
