Live Blogging the Perry Debate

I will be live blogging the Perry Debate. I’m going to live blog the entire trip.

Almost ready to get on the bus…

IMG00020.jpg

Got my Jim Martin T-shirt, Women for Jim Martin buttons, and my tambourine from the DNC Women Caucus (gotta bring the noise).

Gotta run find socks and shoes. Yeah, I know it’s 3:08 pm – I’m on DT time – Democrats Time.

CWA is in the hizzouse

Getting on the bus

IMG00021.jpg

OK so the Labor crew really know how to do this bus road trip.

First, we are all had to sign in. Name, Email Address, and cell phone number. I guess they will call you when the bus gets really to roll out and you are still sitting on the roller coaster. Secondly, they bring food, chips, and drinks, and a whole lot of fruit – saweet! Thirdly, there is a roll call after the bus starts. So our bus guy (not sure what you call him, Mr. Bus Leader) knows who is supposed to get back on the bus. No half-stepping with the Labor folks.

4:16 pm – Bus leaves the IBEW parking lot

4:38 pm – in gridlock traffic on 75.

5:01 pm – just entered Spalding county. Pine trees, Pine Trees, and more Pine Trees. Going to shutdown laptop to conserve battery life. Be back later.

6:02 pm – just woke up in time for food distribution and entering Perry city limits. I’m a little confused with my Labor brothers and sisters – their choice for beverages – Pepsi. What the heck??? C’mon now who runs the Dirty South – the red and white crew. I opted for good old Kroger brand water – yeah you know I’m swollen not having any Dansani.

oh, it”s funnel cake time. Just found out that a funnel cake is worth 84 Weight Watcher points. I think there is a rule that WW points are cut in half and then divided by 2 during Georgia Fairs.

7:10 pm

Debate:

Question to Jim about DHR. Asked why the voters shouldn’t hold this against hims.

Jim’s answer: said he is proud of his work there. He made tough decisions and that’s not what happens in Washington DC

Question to Saxby: Why did you vote on the bailout bill?

Saxby said “gosh no – pulling a Palin on us. Saxby trashed Buckley “said Buckley was going to stick his head in the sand”.

Rebuttals: Oh Jim just smacked Saxby the hell down. He said “the only 2 people who have stuck their heads in the sand have been Saxby and George Bush”. Crowd went wild – ok we went wild.

7:16 pm: Saxby and Buckley are having a pissing match.

Question to Jim: Why weren’t the markets regulated.

Jim’s answer: because Saxby voted for some act. He answered very well.

Saxby’s rebuttal: said he didn’t make the decision on his own. dumb ass answer. Dude takes no responsibility.

Question to Saxby: Why should the voters give you a second pass when your party was in control and we are in this economic mess.

Saxby: just blamed the Clinton administration for the subprime lending and today’s financial crisis.

7:21 pm: Buckley just said we don’t need a national health care plan. Ka-razy

Saxby’s response: said “we have never had a tax cut without paying for it” – what is he smoking???

Jim’s response: just slammmed Saxby for suggesting a 23% sales tax.

Question to Saxby: would you rethink fair tax?

Saxby’s response: says that the fair tax would increase our exports. Says the fair tax would eliminate IRS. Basically he would not rethink the fair tax.

Buckley’s response: called fair tax a “sham”.

Question to Buckley: Buckley said government should offer economic rewards for companies that create innovative

Saxby: says he supports smaller government, but we need some regulation. Claims the financial market is the most heavily regulated industry.

Jim: said President Obama will come in and fix this country from the mess George Bush left.

Question to Jim: Why is it a reasonable belief that affordable healthcare is acheiveable.

Jim: undo what Saxby voted for – for government not to work with pharmacies under Medicare Part B.

Saxby: claims Medicare Part B is one of the better things the government has done. Tried to slam Jim about letting government decide what doctors you go.

Buckley: Health care should be like buying food in a store to control costs and increase competition amongst the suppliers.

Ok we are on a break. Lord it’s getting crunked in here. These Martin fans definitely outnumber and are much louder than the Saxby crew. Well worth the trip.

Saxby asks Jim’s a question: Says in 1995 that Jim voted against making English the official language. Just asked Jim why he was for amnesty.

Jim: I’m telling you Jim is on his damn game. Jim just said that he wasn’t the chair of the immigration subcommittee and that Saxby was. Said he never has said he was for amnesty.

Saxby’s response: It wasn’t him it was the democrats on his subcommittee who prevented any strong immigration legislation.

Buckley to Saxby: dude we don’t know what Buckley’s question is. He’s just rambling. OMG after going around the world about FairTax, Buckley just said “are you incompetent or just deceiving the public?”

Jim’s question to Saxby: “6 years, you said you wanted to enact a George Bush agenda. so are you still in favor of privatizing social security”.

Saxby’s response: he has never been in favor of privatizing social security. says democrats in washington need to know that they can’t spend the taxpayers frivolous. Ummm 700 billion, anyone, anyone?

Jim’s rebuttal: I am not for privatizing any part of social security. A-Game!!

Seriously, why is Buckley on the stage. Why??

Lordie, Saxby just said he has had the honor of confirming 2 of the greatest supreme court judges. Says supreme court judges should interpret the law and not write the law.

Buckley talking..Nita not typing. Lord the man just said Chapter 13 is the best intervention.

Question to Jim about the wars: says we need to restore the balance we had in 2002.

Question to Saxby: “you said that you were opposed to setting a timeline for withdrawal, do you still believe that”.

Saxby’s response: talking about how the surge has worked. OK he just metamorphosed into McPalin.

Buckley just said “we will offer free bus rides back to Mexico”. Yup, that’s a part of his immigration reform plan.

7:51 pm

Jim’s talking about how we need to break our independence to oil. Says that the unregulated futures oil market has not been checked by Washington.

Saxby: says he has signed on to T. Boone Picken’s plan.

Question to Saxby: “what hope do you have to offer to the America people”

Saxby: says Americans are resilient. Says we need to find the root cause of today’s problems and make sure that the greed on Wall Street doesn’t come back. Says America will work its way through this.

Buckley’s rebuttal: lordie yammering about the GAO and some really big numbers.

Jim’s response: says Americans is taking its country back. says change is gonna come in the name of President Barack Obama.

Closing statements: 30 seconds

Saxby: says his opponents gave simplistic answers and this is a complicated world. Says he has been a leader in washington.

Jim: thanked his campaign staff (we go crazy cheering). Says he will stand up for energy and Saxby won’t. Says we need to end the war in Iraq – he will and Saxby won’t. Got damn! bro man is on it!! Proud to work for Jim Martin!!

Buckley: not sure what he said.

Oh Jim just owned Saxby’s ass. He was strong, showed leadership, was in command of the environment, and basically owned this debate. Will write more on the bus.

We heart Jim Martin!!

“I knew Marshall from back when he was Mayor of Macon, and he does have a much quieter, slower demeanor than Rick Goddard. But last night, i would have thought Marshall had the flu or something, just REALLY came across bad not just for the crowd, but on the screen that was being filmed by 2 or 3 TV stations. A BAD night for Marshall.”

What are Marshall’s good nights? When he’s defending torture or writing blank checks for occupying Iraq or voting for children’s healthcare or the bailout package?

    Agree with Tim.

Martin showed he’s willing to step up the meaness somewhat. He needs to continue. The champ is bloodied. This is not the time to let off.

Marshall had a very bad night. Goddard is not that great a candidate but Marshall looked tired and beaten. He’s got to come back much stronger or he might be in trouble.

Other than that the only real winner was the rain. It was quite a gully washer.

Jim Martin made us all proud last night, he seriously stood tall on that stage, and made all of us want to jump out of our seats cheering. it’s been a while for me since anyone’s made me feel like that!

Jim Marshall on the other hand was REALLY off his game last night.

I knew Marshall from back when he was Mayor of Macon, and he does have a much quieter, slower demeanor than Rick Goddard. But last night, i would have thought Marshall had the flu or something, just REALLY came across bad not just for the crowd, but on the screen that was being filmed by 2 or 3 TV stations. A really really GOOD night for Martin. Go Jim-may!

“Seriously, why is Buckley on the stage. Why??”

To keep Saxby honest and show the GOP base that he is a corporatist, not a conservative.

I also got a FairTax question or two at some Tech debate events. God-damn, those people are annoying. So many high-minded justifications to cover their ass … you don’t want to pay taxes, I get it. You don’t have to pretend that you actually have some scruples or morality to me.

I’m no fan of the Libertarians but I think they’re strong and competent enough to earn their place in the debates. The two parties have done enough to fail us as is, allowing some competition on the stage might make them more honest and keep them on their toes and accountable.
