Boob of the Week

This week’s, erm, honor(?), goes to…..all the candidates inviting me to events that not only aren’t in their district, but are WAY OUTSIDE.

For whatever reason this has been a bipartisan phenomenon this year.

The people you need to reach to win your election, are in a specifically contained area. The district. You reach them not by traveling all over the state to hobnob with your buddies, but by spending time at events IN THE DISTRICT, knocking on doors, making phone calls etc. Not by wasting time elsewhere talking to folks who can’t vote for you. I mean if you aren’t serious about winning then fine, go anywhere you want. But if you want to win, spend your time with the voters. Time is the only thing you can’t get more of in your campaign and all you’re doing is squandering it.

Oh yeah, and if you invite me to one of these events I’m not going.

Honorable mention this week goes to NASA. Don’t these dudes know the world is ending in 2012?

You know Ed, I must be not reading this well:

Ed Says: “This week’s, erm, honor(?), goes to…..all the candidates inviting me to events that not only aren’t in their district, but are WAY OUTSIDE.”

And you collectively nominate them for Boob(s) of the week.

So this is a special sort of whining here, right? One where you swear at someone who’s trying to understand what you’re whinging about this time?

Face it. This is GA. We’re surrounded. By lots of Red Rethugs. We need help, and plenty of it from everywhere, but especially from the Outside In to help defeat the forces of darkness. Now this is not a new thought at all. It’s what this effort was all about: http://www.actblue.com/

And BTW? Another long time practice in politics, nationally & locally. That’s why you get these invites. They want & need your money. Not your crass condescension, curses or incomprehension. I’m not talking about actively Campaigning in these districts. It’s all about wider support, meaning Funding. It’s why I supported Al Franken, it’s why I’ve been a part of Wellstone Action for years, despite never having lived in either state. It’s why I support nearly every candidate I know in Ga. who asks. We’re all Democrats, and we need to stick together. JMP

dude, wtf are you talking about? This is so goddamed stupid it needs a response. If I’m running for HD 102, how many votes will I find in HD 53? Please don’t respond because you’re showing you don’t know what you’re talking about already. Please note I’m not talking about fundraising. I’m talking about legitimate campaigning.

Because Ed, It’s what they do as politicians or candidates for office. If you only went to events in your own neighborhood? For much of the rest of Ga. outside the 285 perimeter? You’d likely rarely meet many local Democratic candidates at all. And yes, they all hope that you’ll be somewhat useful & contribute to their campaigns. Because with a shrinking news media and a concomitant shrinking audience for same MSM? Candidates need to buy airtime & access to your mailbox to even get noticed. So much of it’s all about the money, which sadly enough is the lifeblood of politics. Now & forever. Sorry about that. JMP

It’s a very small piece of Cobb just down around 285… I only know because I asked your same question last year.

City boundaries and what areas are classified with city addresses in Georgia has always seemed very odd to me… my home up in Catoosa County had a Rossville mailing address (Walker County) despite the fact that it was 0.1 miles away from Fort Oglethorpe, a city in Catoosa County, but 3 miles away from Rossville in a different county.

Ok, I retract my comment. I wasn’t aware that there were OTP parts of Cobb that had Atlanta addresses, only thought that was Vinings.

Yeah, Ed. Think with your head, not with your SLOVAKIA LOST. OR TIED. BASICALLY THE SAME THING.

The Cobb County JJ dinner is actually in Cobb County, not Fulton. Some of our county down in that area has Atlanta addresses but are inside of Cobb County.

I can only assume Mayor Reed is speaking because his election was so recent and was very captivating given his surge from the rear of the pack to victory.

I knew I should have thrown in the fundraising caveat.

As for CCDP, isn’t at least on the border? At any rate Kasim can raise money I mean we’ve had Bredesen, Easley, and a few other regional Govs/Sens speak at JJ.

That reminds me. Why is the Cobb County Democratic Party having their annual party in Fulton County with the Mayor of Atlanta speaking?

I have to disagree, Ed. There are many reasons for going outside of the district for an event, namely fundraising. I think if every event is being held outside of the district, sure. But a single event? Nope.
