Our friend Russ over at the AP just released a story about a letter written by DPG Chair Jane Kidd regarding party members criticizing Democrats in primaries. I don’t know who leaked an internal document to the press but I have my suspicions. The article talks specifically about the 12th Congressional primary. A few county party chairs and elected officials have voiced their displeasure in Rep. John Barrow’s vote on healthcare. Some have gone as far as saying they will support his opponent Former State Senator Regina Thomas.
As far as the elected officials go they can endorse anyone they want in an election. The county chairs are a different story. Party members have to constantly walk a fine line and not use their official title when endorsing a candidate in a primary. John Brewer, Chair of the Montgomery County Dems, has been very vocal in his displeasure of Barrow. In his defense he says he was speaking as a private citizen and not a party chair. Where does one draw that line? It’s a tough question. Mr. Brewer can’t control if the press calls him and uses his title as county chair. Some county chairs may be taken off guard when Politico comes calling asking questions about her/his congressman.
In the long run this will blow over. What I am worried about and what I think the bigger problem here is that someone leaked this letter. Some things should be kept inside “the family”. Or at least let the reporter use your name in the article. Loose lips sink ships.
Oh yea, this was my first post on BfD. I promise the future one will be better. I wanted to do some sort of cheeky intro of myself but this seemed more important. Anywho, my name is Gunner. I am a Democrat and Windows 7 was my idea.
