IAVA Hosting Film Screening at Ft. Benning

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America will be hosting a screening of the film Restrepo at Fort Benning, GA on July 12th at 7:00PM.  The screening will feature a Q&A with producers Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington.

IAVA is excited to provide both member veterans and civilian supporters with opportunities to attend free screenings to Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington’s award-winning and gritty documentary, Restrepo, at various installations across the country.

The film is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, “Restrepo,” named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military.

The filmmakers will be on hand for a Q&A at each event. Below, you can watch both the film’s trailer as well as IAVA Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff’s interview with filmmaker Sebastian Junger. Then sign up to attend a screening near you!

It appears to be an open event, so please come out and support if you’re in the Columbus area (or better yet, audacious enough to make the hour and a half drive from Atlanta).  Sign-ups will be open until they hit max capacity.  Some of you may have seen Junger’s book “War” at your local book store.  It was essentially written about the same events but in greater detail and is currently charting pretty well on The New York Times Best Seller list.
