What Are They Putting In the Water?

Alvin Greene syndrome seems to be spreading across the country as another state Democratic Party is scrambling to cast out one of its primary-anointed nominees.  To be fair, Kesha Rogers has been campaigning vigorously out there in her conservative Texas district, but it’s honestly hard to fathom that a LaRouchian could make such significant progress in such a relatively high profile primary (as opposed to, say, dogcatcher).  Worse than the fact that she’s a LaRouchian is the fact that Ms. Rogers is actively running on a platform of impeaching President Obama.  Unlike the folks out there in the Palmetto State, Texas Democrats have quickly made their thoughts on the matter known as they refuse to recognize her campaign.

Strange video below the fold.

From Time:

Rogers, 33, told TIME she is a “full time political activist” in the Lyndon LaRouche Youth Movement, a recruiting arm of the LaRouche political organization that is active on many college campuses. The LYM espouses LaRouche opposition to free trade and “globalism” (the UN, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund) and it also calls for a return to a humanist classical education, emphasizing the works of Plato and Leibnitz. On her professional looking campaign website, kesharogers.com, she touts the LaRouche political philosophy – a mix of support for the economic policies of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the impeachment of President Obama – and calls Obama a “London and Wall Street backed puppet” whose policies will destroy the Democratic Party. During the campaign, she was photographed carrying an oversized portrait of the President with a Hitler-style moustache penciled on his lip.

But don’t take my word for it.  See for yourselves.

As many problems as Democrats have had in Georgia in recent years, we can still sleep soundly at night knowing that we aren’t South Carolina or Texas.  Right?

    I read the TPM story on her, and thought that might do something. Honestly, it is in cases like this that having candidates sign a very benign pledge might not be a bad thing. I mean she’s a freaking LaRouchie.

    “the Party and other organizations refuse to come out and say “We support Carol because we know who the heck she is.””

    Because they can’t.

    True, but there’s something to Steve’s thought here too. This said, the LaRouchian in TX was known, and I think TPM did at least one story on her. They periodically make some significant trouble in NY, where they can get on the ballot easily & win the endorsement of some ‘slates’ on rare occasion. This said, it’s getting to be a significant ‘sock puppet’ issue, and seemingly now, enraged (or just devious) plutocrats can game the system at will with various ‘proxies’, and this needs to be adequately addressed by state parties. Be sure to see the poll above this post. Carol is polling at twice the number of McCracken.

    I still believe that even though Carol is second on the ballot that she will win.

    @parker404–

    You are far from the only one to notice this. I know I have as well. My biggest problem is that, despite public reports of her being erratic, odd, and also not really that good of a Democrat, the Party and other organizations refuse to come out and say “We support Carol because we know who the heck she is.”

    It’s disappointing to me, really, that because of party rules intended to protect candidates in competitive primaries (Governor, AG, etc), organizations cannot dis-endorse others.

    To be honest, I don’t think it’s ever really an “Alvin Greene problem” until there’s actually an electoral upset in the primaries. There’s always one or two candidates that manage to qualify despite better-entrenched, more experienced opposition. Imagine the hell storm that would ensue if Otis Putnam were to win the GOP gubernatorial nomination. Hopefully I haven’t spoken too soon though lol.

    Why aren’t you all acknowledging that we already have our own Alvin Greene problem – a Ms. Tricia McCracken, candidate for Lt. Governor? She’s not campaigning, has no website, has not attended any forums and has filled out no questionnaires. Her name will be above Carol Porter’s on the ballot. Am I the only person who sees that this is a plant?
