Team Hodges please stop your supporters from emailing myself and the media folks. This is getting ridiculous.

Dear Dear Fellow Georgian,
I am anger, upset, and appalled that I have been scammed and lied to by Republican Attorney General Candidate Rob Teilhet . Robert Teilher not only tricked me, but thousands of Georgiana with his deceptive campaign ads. He has made us believe that he a forward thinking crime fighter that would protect us and our families. How can Mr. Teilhet protect us when he has never prosecuted a single criminal? How can he be forward thing when he has used hard working Georgians tax money to pay lobbyist and excessive travel expenses? Teilhet has even won a Golden Sleaze award for pandering votes. He even stooped so low he aired a commercial full of lies using an elderly African American woman to tug at the heart string of the black community to deceive them in to voting for him. That is not forwarding thinking to me but backwards, underhanded, untrustworthy thinking and Georgia does not need that. Attorney General is not an entry level job. We need someone with experience that can protect and serve Georgia. That is why I have changed my vote, and decided to vote for Ken Hodges for Georgia’s’ next Attorney General. A man dedicated to community service, protecting Georgia’s families, and fighting crime. Democrat candidate Ken Hodges is compassionate, hard working, and devoted to bring justice to all Georgians’. He has over 12 years of District Attorney Experience where he actually prosecuted dangerous criminals putting them behind bars where they belong. Hodges has even double the conviction rate for child predators. He has done outstanding work in all communities and even has the support of civil rights leaders. Don’t be fooled by the deception and lies of Robert Teilhet. On July 20, 2010 vote for a hardworking honest man that cares about Georgia. Please vote Ken Hodges!

    #4. Do facts or emotion matter more in TV ads?

    The ad has caused a shake-up in the race for the first open seat for attorney general in the state in 60 years — and has ignited racial tensions. Both Teilhet and Hodges are white; the mother is black. Race was a major issue when this trial was going on, and some observers see Teilhet as trying to make a play for the black vote with this ad.

    But Hodges, who has rounded up the support of prominent African Americans, has pushed back hard. An independent fact-checker called Teilhet’s claim that Hodges botched the case as “false,” said that the prosecutor was not required to swear in the officer, and noted that a jury saw the video, featured in the ad, multiple times.

    The whole Hodges/Teilhet race has been disappointing…on both sides. The two camps have spent way too much time pissing on each others shoes. I can’t go to single political blog without sockpuppets from both campaigns sniping at each other and getting personal.

    It’s painfully obvious the email in question is the work of a deep-cover member of the Teilhet campaign. Who else would go so far to cheapen civic discourse in the name of shallow opportunism?

    Is this the same Jack Smith who quit his day-job so he could spend more time vandalizing Ken Hodges’ Wikipedia page?

    Evidence:

    1. This page includes a list of all his contributions to Wikipedia.

    2. The bottom paragraph on this page is his censure for not using proper sources in his edits to the Ken Hodges entry.

    Dirtying online conversation with lies and unsupported half-truths is the mark of a diehard Teilhet supporter.

    “Melb” and “Melb76” is Shannon Marietta, the sister of Melissa Marietta. Melissa is, of course, Hodges’ campaign manager. Melb is assigned full time to posting to blogs, and has a creepy-weird facination with Charles Rehberg, Ken Hodges’ victim in the Phoebe Factoid false prosecution matter. Every time someone is opposed to Hodges, she accuses the person of being Charles Rehberg in disguise!

    This reminds me of a funny story. In a statehouse race in 2004, the Republican nominee was an attorney who had represented some pretty shady characters. The party paid for some live persuasion calls telling voters about his history. We didn’t tell our candidate because we wanted to give him some plausible deniability. He called up and was like “I think my opponent is having people say bad stuff about him to try to draw up some sympathy.” We let it stand at that.

    The point being, you would never have your people say bad stuff about yourself trying to “frame” your opponent as having done it. It just doesn’t make sense. As an aside, the Republican we were running against was a “Former Democrat” who had a reputation around home as a “moderate.” This year he became one of the leading tea-baggers in the General Assembly after the healthcare bill passed. Shows you how much those “moderate” “former Democrats” who “really want to be Democrats” are really worth.

    This reminds me of some of the emails that were sent out during a certain DPG Chair election by certain people who now appear to be on the Hodges campaign team…I’m just sayin’.

    I voted for Hodges and must say that I have been a bit disappointed in the way some within his campaign have acted. If he wins tomorrow, I hope he makes some changes.

    Who knows? But it looks to all the world like a studiously reproduced ‘Lil Rascals’ ransom note, with all the tellingly deliberate mistakes. Which speaks poorly as to what they might think of the voting public. Another reasonable interpretation might also be made that may seem quite a bit worse. But we’ll leave it lie.     I think this email has a few too many grammatical errors to be 100% astroturf. More likely what we’re looking at is an email written by a rogue Hodges supporter that was later reappropriated by an equally rogue Tielhet supporter. He or she likely added a few cringe-worthy mistakes (a clever move if it’s true) and emailed it out as if from a Hodges supporter. That was my immediate impression, anyway.

    Whatever the case, I doubt any of this came directly from either campaign. This seems too much the product of an overeager (overeducated?) supporter or supporters.

    This is just silly. Whoever is responsible is wasting their time. This kind of nonsense persuades no one. And, Bernita’s right – the weekend before the election has not stopped the Hodges team from sending out emails, mass and otherwise.

    I didn’t say the communications director nor the campaign manager wrote the stupid emails. I was commenting on your statement that everyone in the campaign is out doing GOTV in person and not sending out any emails. They are sending out emails – my inbox is full of Hodges stuff – this astroturf crap and lots of other crappy emails from Team Hodges.

    I have asked on numerous occasions to be removed from their “press” list and when one member of their campaign removes me another campaign person picks up my email and continues to blast me.

    Almost everyone on the campaign has been doing GOTV efforts for the past 3 days, in person, not sending emails. So, while it may be a rogue supporter – it is not the campaign.

    Bernita is a closet Republican. Notice that she wrote, “Rob Teilhet is a Democrat candidate” not “Rob Teilhet is a Democratic candidate.”
