I got a press release from the Hodges folks claiming that Fox 5 wants Teilhet to take down his ad. Apparently one cannot use footage from a news broadcast in a political ad.
I don’t know anything much about this so I’m putting the release below the fold.
Rob Teilhet, candidate for Georgia Attorney General has found himself in hot water with WAGA-TV Fox 5 Atlanta. Rob Teilhet improperly used a clip from Fox 5 in his first television commercial which started airing on July 5.
News broadcasters made it clear on the July 7 evening news that the Teilhet campaign did not get permission from the station or from the anchors to use their likeness in the ad. The station went on to explain it does not endorse Rob Teilhet.
After improperly using television news footage, WAGA has demanded the footage no longer be used.
“It’s ironic that in an ad trying to convince voters he is ready to be Georgia’s chief law enforcement officer, Rob Teilhet has once again demonstrated that he is not qualified for the job. Our next Attorney General cannot play fast and loose with the law. If he can’t properly produce a campaign ad about fighting crime, how can we trust him with the important job of protecting our children and keeping our communities safe,” said Shannon Marietta, Campaign Manager.
