She filps, she flops, but make no mistake about it – Karen Handel is the most liberal of the Republican candidates for Governor. Now, that might be a little like saying Macon is the coolest spot in Georgia today, but it’s the truth. Karen can say whatever she wants about the emails where she makes clear her support for benefits for domestic partners, and equivocate as she might about her support for abortion rights under certain circumstances, when it comes to social issues, the real Karen Handel is, dare I say it, moderate.

(Pausing for the collective gasp.)

So, why, now is she reading from different cue cards? Because moderate doesn’t sell in a Republican primary in Georgia, and as Handel explained in her interview today, in a campaign, it’s “better not to have folks be adversarial against me.”

Translation? Karen Handel will say anything to get elected. And she just did.

I think Sonny Perdue qualifies more as a “moderate” Republican than Karen Handel…

Sorry Amy, didn’t mean to come down so hard. It’s one of my pet peeves that people have been convinced that Ms Handel is a moderate. On a continuum I suppose she falls farther to the “left” than any other Republican candidates, but that continuum is skewed very far to the right.

Riddle me this: Are there any “Liberals” running for Governor in any party?

“better not to have folks be adversarial against me.”??? She’s in the wrong bidness.
Perhaps she is qualified to be an accountant.

Let’s be clear. I’m not giving her any awards, but I think that she is lying about her positions now to garner Republican support. She is a pretender.

    Voted today. Voted for Barnes.

Amy, who knows since so many of them are walking, crawling, biking, ethics investigations and thus not to be trusted under any circumstance. Today, word on the street was Ox was closeted, so who the heck knows what any will say or do.

Karen isn’t qualified no matter what she says her positions are. I personally would like Barnes to run against Ox or Deal. Neither of them has the gravitas in a side by side with Barnes and not look small and grasping.

What I am saying is that among her competition on the Republican side, she’s the moderate. Tell, me, which of the Republican candidates for Governor is more liberal than Karen Handel?

    To paraphrase The Usual Suspects:

The greatest trick Karen Handel ever pulled was convincing Georgian’s that she is a moderate.

Additionally, adversaries are already against you; that’s what the word means.

I’m cold blooded enough to understand every politician has to pander during primaries and for that reason I usually let a lot of things slide. But there are limits. I’ll be skipping the governors race in the primary.

  10. Stefan says:

She is NOT a moderate. Her views and life choices are not those that people who are in the middle of the political spectrum make, given her available options.

    She ain’t a liberal either.
