Since JMP asked nicely, here’s a Monday open thread.
At Chelsea’s wedding, Bill had this to say: “Despite the fact that we have had interesting careers, we still consider the most important job we ever had being the parents of Chelsea.” Aw.

There’s probably one illegally placed in a right-of-way near you. Just steal that one.
Call the campaign or wait until the DPG convention 8/14.

No pets, just economics & Political-economy, Jerry. It’s more demanding than pets & trees. Like what causes income inequality & the real role of politics therein? Here:

Also don’t think the creep factor was unintentional. I even pointed this out in the original thread.
You don’t like the GOP tracker? Will think of something shortly.
Joe, if you don’t have a pet, I think you need one.
Cat or dog?
Three years later and ‘Just say Yes to Mortgage cramdowns’ by Tanta was prescient & right. Now the Fed says so too in new research: (Via Calculated Risk):

What is to be done about the jobs & economic crisis?
by James K. Galbraith

“Don’t be fooled by hawks who warn of a “long-term deficit crisis,” says the celebrated economist—expanding entitlement programs will save money and free up jobs for those who really need them: young people”.

Why thanks Eds, for making me the most censored & sanctioned person on here. I’m honored. That 2 posts were ‘disappeared’, and that like due to the fact that we can not post several links I do lead them in with yes, about Less than 100 words of intro.
Now I know most of them were about economics. And I know that might make for depressing reading. But there was just so much else going on here at the time that well, you needed all that extra space & concentration for discussion of the Bonsai. Go for it Eds! I know more people are interested in that than anything silly on extending the Bush tax cuts. No, you’re right. It’s really annoying. And detracts from the Bonsai. Thanks for the added serenity Dude. JMP
P.S. Your gravatar is seriously freaking me the f*ck out. Please, can’t you use some pretentious indie music thing instead? Perhaps the cover photo from Contra that is the subject of litigation?
Yes. The irony is not lost upon me. The power is going to my head.
EDIT: Also saying it cause I know it works.
SECOND EDIT: To be fair to me, I also wasn’t guilty of leaving literally, 8 successive comments in the same thread with a 400-500 word exegesis on each link and then whine when people don’t read my stuff. I mean I would whine but at least it was for different reasons.
THIRD EDIT: Just because I can.
Hey Ed – Remember when I used to leave comments like this for you? Ah… good times. 🙂
Dude…seriously, chill the **** out. Not being able to post multiple links in a comment doesn’t mean you should spam an open thread.
Just a tip w/r/t your whining about people not reading comments…don’t post 10 consecutive comments with lengthy commentaries. People might do something other than skip over whatever you just posted if you did that.

Since no one else does these things, and it reminds us of archaeology much of the time, we need to remind people of who Mitch Miller was. Here from a nice sounding paper in Rochester, NY:
A once & future musical prodigy in many genres & venues, and widely known & feared as that Van Dyke wearing SOB who tried unsuccessfully to stem the tide of Rock n’ Roll @ Columbia Records well into the 1960’s as their head A&R man, Mitch Miller was a force of nature. He may have also been the last man alive who recorded playing with Jazz legend Charlie Parker as well. Along the way he nearly killed off Sinatra’s career, turned away Elvis, and created a harpsichord hit for Rosemary Clooney in 1951 with “Come On-a My House.” And yet, he’s as likely to be known for the ever hokey and hopelessly anachronistic ‘Sing along with Mitch’, albums & hit TV show for NBC from 1961-66. This maven of the novelty hit scored big with the million-selling but well nigh unlistenable “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” which spent six weeks at No. 1 in 1955. Still you’d never know that in 1947, the first Miller-produced Mercury (classical) recording, Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” with the Fine Arts Quartet, won a Grand Prix du Disque in France.

This from the Rochester paper: “In recent years, Miller returned to his classical roots, appearing frequently as a guest conductor with symphony orchestras.
In 2000, he won a special Grammy Award for lifetime achievement. “Twenty-five years too late, but I’m happy,” he said at the time.
Reuther said her father died of “just old age.”
“He was absolutely himself up until the minute he got sick,” she said. “He was truly blessed with a long and wonderful life.”
Miller was born in 1911 in Rochester, the son of a Russian Jewish immigrant wrought-iron worker and a seamstress. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester.
He feuded with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and his alma mater, rifts that were largely healed by the time Miller returned in November 1999 to conduct a concert with the Eastman Philharmonia.
Reuther said there will be a memorial service for her father in the fall”.
Another talented, ancient magical musical NY nut gone. JMP
Best cooking show ever!
I saw the IJ linked on Galloway’s blog. Kudos to Handel for calling a spade a spade, but it’s just so sad that this was the best the Republicans could come up with for a candidate field. Good for us, but really sad for them.
I thought so too until my husband received a glossy four page “Investigation Journal” by Karen Handel which does nothing but talk about how corrupt Nathan Deal is. I should scan and post it here.
Surprisingly, the Republican primary bloodbath has not been nearly as enjoyable as I hoped it would be.
Thanks, I’ll (almost) let the sun set and then get back to economics. I can already hear the groaning. But something related to a discussion we’ve had on the boards. And yes, the amount of vapid commentary on the wedding has almost been astonishing. But I always imagine it might have been far worse. Seemed to go off very well though.
OK here’s some other happy news of the day too:
