President Carter wins release of Aijalon Mahli Gomes from North Korea

Roughly 15 minutes ago, at the request of President Carter, and for humanitarian purposes, Mr. Gomes was granted amnesty by the chairman of the National Defense Commission, Kim Jong-Il,” the Carter Center said in a statement. “It is expected that Mr. Gomes will be returned to Boston, Mass., early Friday afternoon, to be reunited with his mother and other members of his family.”

This raw video is surprisingly touching.

Tweets from the State Dept. ‘Hey, heed the travel warnings, we’ve only got a few Ex-Prez’s left!’

Yes indeed. Last night I was able to show Jason Carter a copy of my FT with a prominent picture of Jimmy once again doing yet aother good turn for someone. And I’ve got no idea why all these ‘wandering Christians’ need to be constantly rescued from the bowls of repressive regimes either. Recall the fiasco in Myanmar & that TX missionary ‘dropping in’ on Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, still under house arrest a few years back too. JMP

Obviously, glad to see the American citizen returned home, and without a shot fired… excellent job I’m sure by the President, his staff, the Secretary of State, her staff and the former President and his staff.

I’m also glad to see this for President Carter… given how his administration finished, it’s good to see him be involved in these activities and be able to return one of our fellow citizens to us.
