If you’ve ever visited you Congressperson in DC, weren’t you surprised at how small the their offices are and how the staff have to shoehorn themselves into the workspaces? This article explains how you might score a decent space, or not.

Please sign this petition to help us ban the practice of shackling incarcerated women during transport, labor, delivery and recovery in Georgia jails and prisons. Yes, you read that correctly, Georgia still shackles pregnant women as they are giving birth. Only six states have laws condemning this practice, clearly we are not one of them. Read more about it here.

Weekend Events:

Each November 20th, we gather for the annual international vigil that calls attention to the suicides and murders of transgender people during the past year. In Atlanta, activists will gather at the State Capitol for a candlelight vigil being organized by he Juxtaposed Center for Transformation and its executive director, Tracee McDaniel. Many groups come together to mark this occasion. This year we will remember 30 people.

This weekend, in Columbus GA, thousands will gather at the annual Close the SOA protest and vigil.  SOA Watch is a nonviolent grassroots movement that works to stand in solidarity with the people of Latin America, to close the SOA/WHINSEC and to change oppressive U.S. foreign policy that institutions like the SOA represent. The full schedule is here.

Finally, It’s FruitCake! Likely the only Holiday album I’d want. The Superions, are a side project of Fred Schneider of The B-52s

Obscure history for certain. But rent paying & rent seeking behaviors enforced by politics? As old as time itself, and just as relevant today. JMP

    Another TSA Outrage

A friend of mine sent me this about his TSA experience. He, unlike most of us, was coming back into the country from Afghanistan on a military charter…”

“As the Chalk Leader for my flight home from Afghanistan, I witnessed the following:”

M-16’s? Machine guns & grenade launchers? Fine. Nail clipper? Wait just a minute soldier! JMP
