Democrats in Georgia have much to look forward to. I mean, in all reality, how much worse could it get? The losses in November, the party switchers, and the general malaise of party activists brings us to a turning point.
If you are an engaged State Committee Member, in all likelihood you have “a dog (or two or five) in the race” for Saturday’s leadership elections being held in Warner-Robbins. I have several myself. I would just like to remind you that the needs of the party must outweigh your individual wishes once the election is over. In order for our party to grow and thrive, we must all put on our big boy pants and move on. The clock is ticking, and we will have no time to lick our wounds and pout.
Whatever your strengths may be, your skills, time, ideas, and elbow grease will be needed to rebuild our party. From cleaning out the offices to crafting a compelling message, we will need every bit of energy you can spare in order to reclaim leadership in our state.
But, let me warn you. Nothing is going to happen overnight. This is a marathon. Not a sprint. It could be two, even three cycles before we see real progress. We must all work together to recognize our small gains and strategize for future windfalls.
And, I’m not just preaching to State Committee members. Every Democrat in our state, from the infrequent volunteers to the largest donors have a stake in our future and we NEED you all! I’m confident that whomever prevails, your contributions will be encouraged, welcome, and appreciated. There will be many changes afoot, and your help will be essential to the future of Georgia.
We’re on the path to a brighter future. Please join us in accomplishing what we know must be done.
