Atlantic Station Facelift

Creative Loafing reports that new owners at Atlantic Station have plans for “spellbinding transformation”.  Thomas Wheatley over at CL has all the details.  Highlights include: “an improved parking experience”; emphasis on local restaurants; and enhanced security.

I’ve always liked the idea of Atlantic Station, but the execution has been less than I hoped for.  Let’s all hope this transformation improves the entire, not just the “parking” experience.

I remember when Atlantic Station was a brown field. It was an eyesore in a area riddled with crime. Now, it is a bustling center of commerce that has added value to my urban living experience. I accept Atlantic Station for what it is.

Walk from where? the busride from my house to get to AS is ridiculous. I can drive it in 10min or ride a bus for a couple of hours there and couple of hours back…um no.

I’m with Mel, it would make more sense if the premium parking up top or even first deck was paid and valet and the parking underneath that was free. The signs are very very confusing.

Needs walkable cities too. Boston is & always was. Ditto for much of NYC actually, w/the subways, of course. The Atlanta MSA is this cancerous blob that now extends to ‘Bama in the West, Chattanooga in the north, and almost to SC in the East. Not walkable. The same with most typical US cities built up after WW11 and more car centric. The way they were intentionally built & rebuilt. JMP

I’m sorry, but if I’m going to shop, eat or see a movie, I don’t think I should have to pay a dime to park. That parking deck nightmare is why I don’t go to Atlantic Station.

Atlantic Station is actually a success, in fact probably resounding. The pay stations before you get to your cars are actually ideal for a place like that.

Witold Rybczynski, in addition to being a good Polak, is much smarter than us on these things and has good things to say about AS in his latest book. I’d dig it up if I weren’t in the Orient.

I like the parking underneath too, but they’ve made it way too complicated to navigate. And, really, you have to pay before you even get in the car?

I like the parking underneath the stores. What is the problem with that?

I really liked that they used the word ‘spellbinding.’ I like Atlantic Station, but yes.. more local restaurants.
