A Press Release from the DPG:

Under GOP, Georgia Job Creation Is “Ignored”

Georgia – As the state General Assembly session approaches its conclusion, Georgia’s Republican-led legislature has failed to pass a single job creation bill, while Georgia’s unemployment rate continues to be higher than the national average.

Walter Jones of Morris News Service writes in today’s Florida Times Union, “Considering how much was said about job creation during the campaign, it’s surprising that so little focus has been put on it now…unless someone pulls a rabbit out of a hat in the next 10 legislative days, voters may feel frustrated that their top issue will not have received much attention.”

Georgia Republicans control majorities in both houses of the General Assembly, enabling them to pass any legislation without opposition.  After concentrating on a flawed immigration bill, an attempt to make a miscarriage into a felony, and a tax increase on middle-class citizens that targets services from haircuts to lawn care, the Georgia General Assembly has not passed a job creation initiative.

“If Governor Deal and the Republicans were serious about creating jobs, they would have started on day one.  But instead, now 31 days into the legislative session, nothing has been done to create a single job in Georgia,” said Nikema Williams, First Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “The needs of the people of Georgia are being ignored by the Republican Party.”

But they did pass jobs legislation. Consider the billboard bill. People will be hired to cutt down trees on public rights-of-way to improve billboard visilbility, folks will be hired to place advertising on billboards, and people will spend more money at the businesses that create jobs—a triple header.

Correction: ‘Under GOP, US Job Creation is Ignored’. This has been true for many years too. JMP
