Wednesday Open Thread

Winning feels good.

Being Indicted feels bad.

Most AM Talk radio is bad.

Most BlogTalk Radio is good.

Smart women running for school board is good.

    More on Happy Lee here:

And his Civil Rights work is what he was most proudest of in the long bitter battles of the 1960’s, when he was in the trenches leading the good fight & winning for humanity & posterity.

No other place to put this sad news, in Polk Co., Heslip ‘Happy’ Lee has died. He’s been ailing for some time now, but was a Great Ga. Democrat. Happy died Thursday, May 26, 2011 & Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home of Cedartown has charge of the arrangements.

He was 89, and had done service in the war on poverty for both JFK & LBJ. The Funeral is @ 2 p.m. Sunday, First Baptist Church, Cedartown. I’ll be trying to make it. JMP

And again, because it’s dull late at night, straight from Gresham College, London, it’s provost Prof. Sir Roderick Floud, FBA, with a lecture on the topic: “Our Changing Bodies:The Lessons of Anthropometric History”.

Sorry for the quality, the current lecture on British Gardens was much more clear and better shot. I guess many more would be interested in that topic over this. But to make up for that, there’s an audio clip at the link, as well as a Power Point presentation and a full transcript. Those Brits are always well organized.
    Enjoy! JMP

A mere 25 years after it started, and perhaps 10 years (?) when I last explained it to Jerry, R.W. Fogel’s likely last masterpiece is now in book form. From Cambridge University Press. Downstairs.

An early version from whence it all came from, the NBER: http://www.nber.org/books/foge10-1

And I know fewer people might recognize that name as Ratko Mladic, but it’s still a cracking good job. On both counts. No matter how long it took to ‘get ‘er done. In the mean time Roderick Floud, who I knew at Birkbeck College, London, became Sir, and Birkbeck, University of London. I’m very old.

Love Emily, hate the outfit in that photo on the website. She should have called DFI for a consult.

Jobs not the deficit is a more immediate national priority:

My latest for the Cartersville Patch. With plenty of cites, of course.
