An e-mail from DPG Chair Mike Berlon:
The Democratic Party of Georgia’s 2011 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner is this Saturday, June 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Insiders and activists alike are excited about the biggest Democratic event of the year. I’m happy to announce that after an impressive appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” less than a month ago, Mayor Kasim Reed will be presentingCongressman John Lewis with the first annual John Lewis Lifetime Achievement Award.
We will be joined as well by a special out-of-state guest, state Senator Lena Taylorof Wisconsin. Senator Taylor was one of the courageous legislators who took a stand against Republican Governor Scott Walker’s extreme and dangerous agenda to harm middle class families earlier this year. She will be sharing with us her story of struggle against the Republican agenda in her state and how she fought back!
Finally, our keynote speaker this year will be Raymond Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, Democratic National Committee Vice-Chair and President of the Association of State Democratic Chairs. Chairman Buckley is a champion of gay rights, the first openly-gay state party chair and a tireless advocate for grassroots activists across his state and the country.
