According to reports about 15 minutes ago…. Georgia State Representative Bobby Franklin has been found dead in his Cobb County home.

Cobb County police just confirmed that state Rep. Bobby Franklin, a Cobb County Republican who skirted the outer reaches of conservatism and helped design the current state flag, has been found dead at his home.

“Our investigators are out there now, at the residence,” said police spokesman Mike Bowman. He promised more details later this afternoon.

I’ll update this later, but wow.

UPDATE: Minority Leader Abrams comments on her fellow House Members passing.

Statement from House Democratic Caucus Leader Stacey Abrams

On the event of Rep. Bobby Franklin’s death

Atlanta, Ga. – July 26, 2011

I am saddened to learn of the death of my House colleague Bobby Franklin. I counted him among my friends and found him to be an extremely principled person.

Although many of his principles differed from my own, I had the occasion to work with Bobby on several pieces of legislation and consider those times to be among the high points of my career.

Bobby was never deterred from pursuing the things he believed to be right.  He was willing to question authority and challenge paradigms – two things I found to be very instructive.

Bobby Franklin will be deeply missed. ###

No Read that again & Weep for our poor nation. We’re Doomed. Couple this with Boehner clearing all proposals & speeches with Rush first, and you’ll know that they’ve lost their moorings in DC. This time forever, most likely. JMP
