Troy Davis Update

Troy Davis is currently set to be executed on September 21, 2011.

“Troy Davis has faced execution three times for a crime he may not have committed. In an unprecedented evidentiary hearing held in a federal district court in Savannah, Georgia in June, 2010, he was able to present evidence supporting his innocence claim. However, the standard for proving his innocence was “extraordinarily high”, especially given the lack of physical and scientific evidence in his case. The federal judge ruled that he did not meet the high standard, despite the fact that doubts about his guilt remain unresolved. It is more important than ever that we continue to let Georgia authorities know that we oppose any effort to execute Troy Davis. Sign the petition today!

NOTE: Due to high volume of supporters, please keep trying to sign this petition if your initial attempt does not succeed.”

They crucified Jesus, to say that they were right.
They executed Troy Davis, to say someone must pay
As you do unto the least of these my brethren,
You do it also unto me
And they crucified Jesus, at 11:08, to say that they are right

After nearly 1 million petition signatures delivered to stop the execution of Troy Davis, calls for clemency from the Pope, Reagan’s FBI Director, and countless others, clemency for Troy Davis was today denied.

Since 1973, 138 people have been exonerated from death row. We do not know the number of innocents, who have been executed. But one thing is for sure: If the Parole Board wants to avoid a wrongful execution, they must halt the scheduled execution and commute Davis` sentence to life. There is too much doubt to execute Troy Davis. In 2007, the Parole Board said it would not allow an execution to proceed if there “was any doubt”. We have to call on them to follow this standard again. We have to do like former President Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Pope Benedict XVI, and thousands of other peoples have done. We have to speak up.
