Foreign policy experts need not apply

I don’t see Herman Cain’s angle, here.

“I’m not supposed to know anything about foreign policy. Just thought I’d throw that out,” he said to a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reporter while on his campaign bus on Monday, the afternoon after his interview with the paper’s editorial board.

Beyond the fact that I doubt the truth in the statement that the President of the United States, the world’s most powerful social, economic, and military nation, need not comprehend even the most basic things about other nations, why is this something you would say out loud while running for President?  Especially for a party that hammered Barack Obama on his “lack of foreign policy credentials” in 2008, and that has prided itself on its hawkishness for a few election cycles now, how is it tenable that there is actually a sizable chunk of the GOP electorate actually likes this guy?

::UPDATE::

Herman Cain truly does mean that he knows nothing about foreign policy.  Evidently, he also knows nothing about foreign languages.  I look forward to President Cain boning up on his British before his first state trip to London.

    “We need a leader, not a reader”, says Cain. Self parody redux via Ta-Nehisi Coates of the Atlantic, your Sunday funnies. Dated, but still pretty funny.
