From the Tipline: Rep. Tinubu to Resign

Word has come through the tipline that Rep. Gloria Tinubu (D-Clayton County) has resigned her House seat effective immediately.  She is midway through her first term, succeeding former Rep. Georgeanna Sinkfield.  Our sources inform us that Rep. Tinubu is moving out of state, but no word on the why.

    That is, at least until the new districts kick in, my district. Heck, if no one else wants it I’ll go serve until November.

    I would add that she was one of the few brave souls that stood up and fought against the Delta fuel tax break and I was impressed with her in the well that day.

    Ed, she’s been around for a while. Tinubu previously served on Atlanta City Council and even ran for Mayor against Shirley Franklin and Robb Pitts. Senator Fort managed her Mayoral campaign. Tinubu then moved out of state after she lost that race.

    It seems like that district is in need of some fresh leadership. The retreads have had their chance!

    I had a bad feeling about Tinubu when Sinkfield literally handed her seat over to her. Tinubu showed up the last day of qualifying and skated into the House without facing an opponent. Let’s hope this district gets a more committed Representative the next go ’round. The people there certainly deserve better.
