The strapped finances of Georgia’s Democratic party

According to the March 31 disclosure filed by the Democratic Party of Georgia, the organization is barely keeping its head above water. It raised $140,966 over the last three months, and spent $133,312.

It has $149,095 in cash on hand – and would have much less, except for what appears to be a campaign among state House Democrats to prop up the party’s finances with nearly $40,000. Most of it in $2,000 checks.

As sad as they are, there’s a lot these disclosures don’t reveal. For one, Angela Knight, Tasso Knight’s wife is on the payroll, AND still squatting in a State Committee seat.

Next, Berlon claims to have reimbursed the DPG for Tasso Knight’s “consulting fees”, but that’s been over 60 days ago. He also claimed to have contributed personally to the DPG, but oops, guess not.

And the money from House Democrats isn’t a vote of confidence, it’s their Caucus dues.

  2. cranky & crusty says:

I thought the DPG was “on track” with their fundraising? Isn’t that the story we’ve all be told over and over again?

So definition of “on track” is one step ahead of the bills. Gotcha.

This is exactly the situation many of the Executive Committee members and staff were trying to sound the warning about back in January and February, in hopes of correcting before it was too late. For their trouble, they were either dismissed, fired, threatened with lawsuits, smeared or generally painted as “wildcats”.

  4. Jakey says:

Wah! Wah! How much have you donated/raised for the party in the last three months?

Plus, finance are always low this time of year. Then we have our big fundraiser, and we make money. It’s almost as if the purpose of such a fundraiser is to… raise funds. My God, who would have thunk it!

  5. cranky & crusty says:

ah hem, Jakey… actually funds are not generally low this time of year. In fact in previous years we’ve had the JJ much earlier than the end of April.. well except for last year then it was in June.

In 2008 the JJ was on Jan 30th, and was the last time the GA Democrats raised any respectable funds.

In a busy election year like a presidential, it’s very important to schedule fundraising early so you don’t compete with all the campaigns after the session kicks off and when all the federal folks come sniffing around for money.

  6. Andrew says:

Are these disclosures complete? Where are all the staff?

  7. Daniel says:

“Jakey” did you really just ask Peaches what she has contributed to the Democratic Party of Georgia? I mean, seriously, is the *that* what you dont understand?

    • Jakey says:

No, I asked her what she has contributed in the last three months. I’ve seen a lot of complaining… In the last three months, the damage that she had her… cohort… have don’t may not have outweighed any good that she has done.

      • Peaches says:

You really are an evil little guy.

        • Jakey says:

Well, it was evident from Mike’s standing ovation at the SCM that your cohirts attempted coup has failed. Mike has tried to reach out and unify the party so that we can reelect the president. Instead, you all continue to try to burn down the house on your way out the door.

          • Peaches says:

Evil and clueless. A great combination for a tool.

          • Peaches says:

By the way, since you always question everyone else’s contributions, what have you done exactly? How much have you contributed, how many volunteer hours have you logged? How many phone calls, door knocks, have you done?

Have you done anything at all? Other than walk with us in the Pride parade last year, during which time you didn’t say a word to anyone?

I got a standing ovation from the State Committee too, at the previous meeting. I also received the first ever Democratic Party of Georgia Medal of Honor, presented to me by Mike Berlon at the grand opening of the HQ.

Absolutely no one wanted this horrible outcome. It’s been heartbreaking.

If you would get your head out of your ass for 5 minutes, and put aside your personal and irrational hatred of me, you might realize that.

            • Jakey says:

What have I done? Well there was the pride parade. I also worked the booth at pride. I have been fighting for local business and against Walmart. I attend my county party meetings and helped put on the roast, which is the largest fundraiser for my county party. This week I will be representing the lgbt community at the boybutante AIDS foundation events and helping a dem. candidate for office.

I’ve also been carrying around a fire extinguisher to put out the fires your cohort have started, including a current one which threatens the JJ. Your shenanigans are at an end.

              • Peaches says:

You are delusional and paranoid. You have no power over anyone. If my “cohorts” are the 23 Executive Committee Members who attended the Special meeting, good luck with that. Few of them even know your name.

                • Jakey says:

Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get me lol, j/k.

Anyways, was that the twenty three members who wouldn’t identify themselves at the unofficial coup meeting?

Moreover, I don’t do what I do for name recognition. And I do have power – the power of the truth. And soon enough, it will be exposed. If they don’t know me, that is fine. It is always good to be underestimated.

                    Good lord.

-14 Executive Committee members signed their names to the call for the meeting which went to ALL Executive Committee members.
-23 Executive Committee members attended the meeting.
-The names of all 23 Executive Committee members were in the minutes of the meeting.
-The minutes were distributed to all Executive Committee members.
There were no unidentified attendees, with the exception of the people who would not identify themselves on the phone and were disconnected. We’ve been over that, but for the record: I believe that a masked and robed individual would not be permitted to attend any meeting held by the Democratic Party of Georgia.

Only later did it occur to me that typically prior MoH winners were shot full of holes to qualify for the honor. Some survived too. JMP

The state party has to report to both the FEC for Federal Expense and the State Ethic Commission for its State Funds. Diffrent dwindling piles of money pay for different things.
