41 Days & Counting Down
It’s getting pretty durn hard to keep up with all the political news these days. I’mma going to take a stab at a couple items that I think got short shrift in the wake/tsunami of the “47%” video.
Local:
The famously political watering hole known as Manuel’s Tavern has issued this release on FB.. the short version..if you want to watch the debates there, arrive early stake out a table, but be prepared to share if your folks don’t arrive by 8:30pm. All debates begin at 9:00 pm ending 10:30 pm. I haven’t been issued my drinking game card yet. Looks like it’s mostly a Twitter thing. Hum, that seems difficult and distracting. Clever people..please work on this.
National:
Murray Energy Corp. founder Robert Murray is a lying sack of poo.
Forget “Tan-dering”, busing in activists is telling. President plays by the rules, Romney does not. N’uff said.
The money’s on the nightstand.
Ah, yeah… folks are already voting. GOTV started Sept 6th. Handy state chart here.
Watching Joe squirm might be my favorite part of the last 2 weeks.
International:
1,200 flashmob for LBGT rights and recognition in Vietnam.
Today is World Contraception Day. Mother Jones (seriously, just kicking it these days) has a terrific article about the cost.

Georgia Politics

So, when y’all going to talk about Rick Crawford switching parties?
Oh Bill, how you tease..
How Bill Clinton Could Be President Again
Bill Clinton told Piers Morgan that he could be president again, just not in the United States.
Said Clinton: “There are only two countries I’m eligible to run for the leadership position is if I move to Ireland and buy a house, I can — I can run for president of Ireland, because of my Irish heritage.”
“And because I was born in Arkansas, which is part of the Louisiana Purchase, any person anywhere in the world that was born in a place that ever was part of the French empire, if you move to — if you live in France for six months and speak French, you can run for president.”
“However, I once polled very well in a French presidential race. And I said, you know, this is great, but that’s the best I’d ever do because once they heard my broken French with a Southern accent, I would drop into single digits within a week and I’d be toast.”
Tres cute and true just the same:

Was out trying to register local college students the past 2 days. The ex-& current military folks? They’re easier than the usual ‘kids’. If they’re grey beards, they’re voting & have been for decades. We could not get about 20% of the younger set to sign up to save their lives. Lots of the same apathy & rank ignorance. Don’t know what it is or what might cause it exactly, But WTFU!!!

One more for the dogpile: New MoJo Vid, David Corn has it:
“NEW ROMNEY VIDEO: In 1985, He Said Bain Would “Harvest” Companies for Profits
This clip shows the young CEO focusing on businesses as targets for his investors, not as job creators or community stakeholders.”

As they say, when it rains it pours. JMP
Obama gets 310+ EC votes.
So IRE. FL and OH or no…?Just curious cause, everyone is talking about those states now..
Well, we’re always talking about those states every 3 1/2 years aren’t we.
dunno about FL in particular but man, you look at Political Wire’s swing state poll tracker and I swear I don’t think I’ve seen any poll where Romney is better than tied. And it isn’t like there are several ties its like one outlier when BHO is like 5 points ahead.
Put it this way, if Obama gets a Reagan-esque landslide I would not at all be surprised. Just get a sense that this is going to be a bloodbath (I’d like to remind everyone that I am never wrong about this shit).
I’ve got the President maxing out at around 370 with a likely total of between 335 and 343.
The only way you get to 400 is if he flips a major state like Texas. That just ain’t gonna happen.
The Oracle of Moultrie has spoken!
I’m just predicting a really bad night for Republicans… *IF* it gets epic, wouldn’t be surprised but I don’t think it will.
Good nickname. I’ll keep it.
This seemingly did not come out well the 1st time so again: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/09/1985-romney-bain-harvest-firms-profits-video
And we’re becoming convinced of that old Napoleonic dictum, ‘Better Lucky than good’ too. Obama’s been both by turns. But perhaps luckier than Clinton in the election home stretch, and that’s something. JMP

Ethics is a non-partisan issue. I really hope those in Georgia are paying special attention to the Public Service Commission (PSC) races. We have a very good chance of electing someone who would be very good for all Georgians.
“….. we can’t afford another six years of this Wise guy, who will continue to vote for every single rate increase his contributors ask for. I’ve been endorsed by the Sierra Club of Georgia and Debbie Dooley, co-founder and co-organizer of the Atlanta Tea Party, as well as a list of others. We’ll be releasing the full endorsement list to the media in the near future….”
