Greetings from Michigan!

Hello, everyone.

For those of you who don’t already, make sure you add Michigan based Eclectablog to your daily reading list…  Eclectablog is the home of the much beloved Twitter account LOLGOP…  and I link to them about a billion times in this post.

A couple of weeks ago, I was able to tell Louis Elrod in person, “Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amonam Circumspice.”  He also got to look south into Canada, which freaked him out pretty bad.  See 10 great facts about Michigan here, including Detroit being the only city in the lower 48 from which one can gaze south into Canada.  Most important Michigan lesson you’ll ever learn…  yes, the state is shaped like a hand, specifically, two hands.  Don’t forget the Upper Peninsula by only using one hand!

Michigan has a Senate race in 2014, due to Sen. Carl Levin (D) declining to run for another term…  but the party has unified behind Congressman Gary Peters, with all other major contenders clearing the field.  We also have to defeat incumbent Governor Rick Snyder, who just recently made Michigan a right-to-work state, and it looks like once again the party will unify behind a single major candidate…  hopefully after the 2014 elections, we can reverse the damage.  Michigan’s economy is already turning around due to the auto industry’s recovery…  I don’t need to remind anyone which was the party of “let Detroit go bankrupt,” do I?

Vice President Joe Biden was the main event at this years JJ Dinner…  or as we say in Michigan, “Jeff Jack Dinner.”

In the Michigan legislature, we’ll be working to take majorities in the state house and the state senate to get rid of the Republicans that are currently ruling the roost.  The folks working on the House side only need to pick up 4 or 5 seats for a majority, while on the Senate side we’ll be aiming to pick up 8 seats for a majority (granted, if we win the Lieutenant Governor’s race, 7 would tie the chamber leaving the Lt. Gov. to break it and make a majority… but lets just win 8 for good measure.)

I would strongly encourage you to visit www.senatedems.org and sign up to receive updates from the Michigan Senate Democratic Caucus.  It’s going to be a fun election cycle in Michigan, and we’re ready to take Michigan back for the working people that built and run this country.

I woke up this morning to an frozen over windshield…  so, that’s May in Michigan.  🙂  I appreciate very much all the well wishes I received and wish all the best for my friends back in Dixie…  and I look forward to keeping you updated on Michigan, home to the most important elections that 2014 will see.

From the FRB of NY comes the startling revelation that, yes, you’re Scrod!

Compare, say MI & Ga. on Student Debt: Why is Ga. one of the worst here?
    http://www.newyorkfed.org/householdcredit/
MI is one of the best for lowest Student Debt Per Borrower (Graph #4, above).

How does this work? Mystified. JMP
